Blood or tomatoes?!

Sorry for tmi Smile

In the past I have had bits of tomato skin in my bowel movement, which are usually reddy orange in colour but yesterday I had a bit of darker red (but not massively dark) on wiping (mixed in with wipe ifyswim Blush) that I initially panicked about but then remembered I had made a tomato pasta sauce on Friday evening with tinned tomatoes and the colour was similar to cooked down tinned tomatoes.

Anyway! I guess I'm asking if tinned tomatoes could be the culprit here? Or should I go straight to gp? I should add that I have been more than once since and all has been fine

yes

Hecateh · 12/08/2019 14:58

that should be yes it's probably tomato.

If nothing further then I can't see any need to worry

jimmychooing · 12/08/2019 15:47

Thanks Hecateh, that does seem the sensible answer. Just lots of confusing (and conflicting) info and advice out there - nhs website says go the GP if 3 weeks of blood in poo and nhs 111 online symptom checker told me to make an urgent appointment ShockConfused

I wouldn't worry yourself too much. Dr's tend to worry more if there is dark blood in your stool or black stool rather than red fresh blood, unless there is lots of it and you're not known to have piles. In your case it does just sound like what you've eaten.

Thanks Kam, I don't have piles (that I know of) and the red was darker than the bright red they talk about with piles - it was darker red and mixed in with the 'movement' when I wiped. I did try to see in the bowl but it had disappeared Grin
