DS went pale and blue after a fall - was it shock?

Yesterday DS (2) had a nasty fall and scraped both hands badly. It obviously hurt a lot - I cleaned them and put on savlon and this also hurt unfortunately - the poor thing then went all trembly and the blood drained from his face, he had blue lips. I wrapped him in a blanket, let him sip apple juice and cuddled him and he gradually returned to normal and was fine - but it was really frightening. Is it normal, was it shock and did I do the right thing, or is it an emergency?

Yes, he was shocked.

I find it shows up more in some kids than others.

My DD1 is the white as a lilly, thin sort.

Whenever she falls like that or gets stressed, she goes desperately pale, trembles, etc.

You sort of get used to it.

Hi expat, thank you. Just occurred to me afterwards I should maybe have been doing something more proactive about it! If it's normal I'll try not to freak out...

maybe he was slightly winded too
the blanket and rubbing his back are the right thing to do
glad he is ok now

Oh, no, you were spot on.

DD1 fell and had a nasty scrape just the other day like this and she did the same thing.

We had to get out the 'magic ointment', the special hankie (for tears), cuddles with blanket wrapped round her, etc.
