Inhaling liquid

What happens when you inhale liquid into your airways?
After a knee op I’ve had to sleep sitting up. Consequently I snore and my mouth gets dry. A couple of nights ago I took a drink from my flask and fell asleep straight away without swallowing. Next thing I knew I was choking and spluttering and I think I inhaled some. I now have the symptoms of a chest infection ( I have asthma as well)
Should I bother my doctor with this?

Yes, absolutely, especially as you have asthma. You can develop pneumonia from breathing a large amount of food or drink.

Yep worth bothering a gp even without the whole water thing. Asthma and chest infections dont mix

Thanks for the replies! I've been putting off going, but I didn't realise you could get pneumonia 😐
