Any medical staff out there? I'm in north Scotland just now....

I got a bite on my ankle and it's getting worse. I've been putting germaline and an afterbite cream on it. It isn't itchy or sore to touch but just looks horrific!

Any ideas what I could do to help it or will it just die down? It happened two days ago.

Should say we're in the middle of no where with 4 kids. The nearest hospital is at least an hour and a half away. We come home on Saturday.

It looks like you need to be seen by a medical professional. That’s a pretty big reaction to a small bite, it’s possible you’ll need antibiotics. Can you find someone to see today?

If it makes a difference then I have very pale/ sensitive skin that burns easy and bruises like a peach lol

It's a horse fly bite.

If a track starts to appear from it or you start to feel ill then go see a doc. Otherwise it's fine.

We cant diagnose it here, maybe see a pharmacist if you dont want hospital. I wouldnt put germolene on it. I had similar and was on antibiotics and anti histamine Hope you feel better soon.

Try antihistamine tablets and if it gets worse, see a doctor.

prettyretro · 07/08/2019 15:36

Thanks all I've drawn a line round it and will take some antihistamines. Will monitor it tonight and we're planning a trip to the nearest town tomorrow so will nip into pharmacy and ask for advice.

As someone upthread said if it starts tracking up your leg you may need antibiotics. Partner had a reaction like that from some sort of bite - he noticed a track line travelling up his leg into his groin - his entire leg swelled up like something out of the elephant man ! Ended up in hospital overnight on iv antibiotics. Didn 't feel particularly ill, just a bit shaky.

Thank you @Caucasianchalkcircles

I've drawn a line round it and we were always planning on going to the nearest town tomorrow anyway. I've mapped a pharmacy so will make that outlet first stop and speak to someone while DP keeps the kiddies entertained.

I've googled a horsefly bite and that definitely seems to be the case so thank you @boomshakalak
