Hi, I hope you dont mind me asking this question on here, trying to find other mums that have been through something similar. I have a son who is coming up to 2. I would now like another child, be it pregnancy or adoption. Thing is I had marginal low lying placenta, and I hemorraged quite badly. Has nyone else had this with their first and gone on to have other children with no problems whatsoever? Trying to find out if i am more at risk of this happening again seeing as I have had it once.thank you all in advance.

I'm not 100% sure but the foetus can imbed anywhere in the uterus so the likelhood of it happening again wouldn't be that great.

Hope this helps.

I don't know about someone having this problem twice but I was told that the placenta can't implant in the same place twice. Usually the placenta implants high up but the more pregnancies someone has the more of the upper part of the uterus is 'used up' and the lower the placenta travels in later pregnancies. I did check all this with a midwife who'd had quite a lot of experience with this problem. This does seem to suggest that it's unlikely to implant low down (at least in the same position) a second time, although there are clearly always exceptions.

I know of a couple of MNers who had pp in their first pgs but not in their second. I am on my second pg (fifth if you count three first-trimester mcs) and briefly had total pp this time - it is still low-lying, but well away from the os - and normal position the first time. The D&Cs I have had for mcs are likely to have influenced it. I think previous pp is a risk factor for a repeat, but it is by no means inevitable that it will happen again. HTH.

Hiya

I had grade IV placenta praevia with my first pregnancy, bled heavily from 27 weeks onwards, was hospitalised from then until 36 weeks, when I had an elective section.

I had dd2 22 months later. Placenta was low-ish early in the pregnancy but was well clear of the os by 34 weeks and I had a natural delivery with no problems whatsoever at 38 weeks.

I have heard that there is a slight risk of pp recurring, because the placenta can attach itself to the inside of the scar from the previous c-section, but I don't know if this is true. Otherwise, I was told that pp is pure bad luck and that there is no reason why it should happen twice.

Good luck!
