What is your eye prescription?

Just curious. I had a check up yesterday and I’m short sighted. Changed from -2.5 to -3.5 in 2 years.

I walked away thinking I don’t even know if that’s bad? Average?

Probably people with a lot worse but just wanted an idea of how mine compares to general population.

Forgot to mention I’m only 30

Mine is -9.5 and -7.5, that’s in contacts which I think is worked out slightly differently to glasses. I’m 37

yellowallpaper · 04/08/2019 10:40

That's fairly minor. Can't remember offhand whether it's long or shortsighted, but mine was on the +/- 7 so huge thick glasses. Had lens implants and now only use weak glasses for reading. Otherwise glasses free.

basicwitches · 04/08/2019 10:51

Mine at my last eye test (when i was 18, three years ago oopsies) was 0.5 and 3.5 but i do have a lazy eye!

underneaththeash · 04/08/2019 22:14

Over -6D is considered high.

Time outside (at least 40 minutes a day) is protective against myopia development. Make sure too you have enough close vision/vdu breaks

ExpletiveDelighted · 04/08/2019 22:19

-12 here. -10 in contact lenses.

heidihigh · 04/08/2019 22:21

-7 in both eyes Sad

suze28 · 04/08/2019 22:21

@yellowallpaper I'm really interested in your experience of lens replacement.
I'm shortsighted with a strong prescription of -11 in my varifocal glasses. I also wear mono vision contact lenses with one lens for distance and the other for near vision.
To the OP yours is fairly low but enough to need correction.

Lochroy · 04/08/2019 22:27

Contact lens prescription of -6.5 and -7.5 before I had them lasered.

PivotPivotPivottt · 04/08/2019 22:32

My contacts are -4.5 not sure what my glasses are. The optician said I had "quite a high prescription". I'm 28.

prettybird · 04/08/2019 22:37

Varies between -2.25 and -2.5 in my dominant eye - optician says it's been remarkably stable over the years (c40 years) that I've been wearing lenses.

Other eye is, I think, -3.5 - but not sure, since I no longer wear a contact lens in that eye, as I use it to "read" write posts on MN Wink while I use my dominant (corrected) eye to see distances (watch TV/drive).

It means my depth perception is slightly affected and I do keep glasses and/or my left contact lens in the car so that I can have fully corrected vision for night driving.

DramaAlpaca · 04/08/2019 23:53

I'm -7.50 in one eye & -8 in the other, so really quite short sighted.

StillMedusa · 04/08/2019 23:58

-7 in one eye - 6.50 in the other.. Plus astigmatism and now a reading prescription so verifocals. Can't see a fan thing without my glasses!

BrennieGirl · 05/08/2019 00:12

I’m 46. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 9. I was told the prescription would settle down in my twenties but it continues to worsen. My prescription is currently -14 and -12. I also have an astigmatism. I had to get varifocals when I last changed my specs because now I’ve started to get long sighted as well as short sighted. I wear contacts occasionally (although I can’t see terribly well with them) for nights out etc. The last few times I’ve worn my contacts when going out for dinner, I haven’t been able to read the menu because of the long sightedness 🙄🙁.

Star801 · 05/08/2019 00:17

-2.5. I don’t think it’s that bad but I still struggle without glasses or contacts.

Doubleraspberry · 05/08/2019 01:24

-2:25 and -4.25 for contacts but glasses has got slightly better in recent years as I’ve got more long sighted with age. The worse one earns me all the hard sells on expensive lenses as it’s ‘so high’. I’m feeling quite Hmm now seeing some of the prescriptions on this thread! I first got glasses at 11 and contacts in my teens and I think my prescription was something like -1.75 and -4.00 then so not huge change.

bettythebutterfly · 05/08/2019 01:28

-6.5 in one eye and -5.5 in the other. They got progressively worse until I hit 35, were stable until I was 42, and now they're getting better. I expect to be able to see perfectly again by the time I'm 75. Unless the longsightedness kicks in...

Doubleraspberry · 05/08/2019 01:47

Sadly, betty, when I suggested that to my ophthalmologist, she just laughed and said ‘bifocals’.

laurenrobinsonn · 06/08/2019 05:28

I'm +10 in my right eye, and a +9.75 in my left eye. I'm only 16.
