Nasty rash on leg

minmooch · 28/07/2019 16:35

DF, 76, with dementia has this on his leg. Almost the whole of his shin. Have asked his care home to call a gp out tomorrow to look at it.

He says it doesn't hurt but leg is swollen and red but is hot to touch. He has dementia so not sure if when he says it doesn't hurt I don't know if to believe him.

Any thoughts?

The red 'bit' is hot to the touch.

Is it cellulitis? I think that can be hot to the touch. I would ring 111 if you are worried as they are there to advise x

Ps if it is cellulitis I would def be ringing 111 - especially if you think swollen and hot to touch

Looks like cellulitis to me. Needs antibiotics

Thank you for the quick responses. Seeing dad tomorrow evening. Will call care home in morning and remind them to call gp out but to keep an eye on him tonight.

Tricky to take him out myself as he has attacked me previously (dementia related) so it's difficult to be alone with him and remain safe.

Care Home don't seem to be worried about his leg. Didn't put him on the list to see GP yesterday who came out. No gp visit to care home today. Gp visit is scheduled tomorrow and I've asked for him to be put on the list.

Manager at care home said GP wouldn't come out outside his scheduled visit unless life threatening! I said Let's hope it's not cellulitis that goes horribly wrong then.

It looks like cellulitis to me also. I would be insisting he be seen ASAP. It also looks painful and should be looked after for that reason alone, even if he says it isn't. The fact that it is hot means inflammation/infection. I had both parents in a care home and had to be really firm with them a couple of times. Like when my Mom's oxygen level was reading very low and they tried to blame it on their machine. It wasn't the machine.

So sorry your Dad is not doing well.

It looks like cellulitis. Have they checked his temperature? If he has any signs of a fever he needs seen sooner than later.

My dad something similar around 3 weeks ago, it was a reaction to his new Blood pressure tablets; swollen ankles and nasty looking rash like this; he too said it wasn't painful. Hope he gets seen by a GP soon!
