Anyone taken antibiotics for a UTI?

I started on macrobid yesterday, just wondering how long they take to work?

The doctor didn't do a urine culture thing because she said it would take too long over the weekend but she suspected a UTI. Im having more lower back pain now is that normal for a UTI?

Thanks

It is usual to have back pain. Antibiotics usually take about 3 days to kick in but you must complete the dose. If you still feel dreadful on Monday go back. Easily cleared up but horrid if not and you mustn't worry about wasting GP time

I had awful back pain with UTI. I had 7 day course macrobid noticed improvement by day 3

Yes if the antibiotics are working you would expect to see an improvement within 3 days, but it can often be as soon as 24 hours. I actually wouldn’t consider back pain as normal for a bladder infection, so keep an eye on that and if it gets worse or you develop a fever, chills, or start to feel unwell in yourself then I would get an out of hours appointment, as that is a sign that the infection has spread and that needs different antibiotics.

Yes, I always have to take them to prevent the UTI from spreading to the kidneys. I normally start to feel better on Day 3 . Do take all the tablets you've been given - don't stop when you feel better.
