Period question - very heavy but for one day only......what's going on???

I'll try and keep this brief but wanted to know if anyone could shed any light on my increasing odd cycles since having dd2. First of all my cycles are still very regular but my period tends to last for about a day or maybe two, but for that particular day is ridiculously heavy - so much so that last month for example in the course of one day, I must have had to change tampons every hour and between the hours of 6 and 9pm - it was every half hour. Not a lot of pain...but lots of big clots...(sorry if TMI!!)

Anywau - I know I could quite easily go to the doctors...but that involves taking a day off and I would rather pick the collective brains of Mumsnet first....

Anyone know what might be going on??

How old is your DD2? If it's only been a few months then it might be your uterous getting back into shape, so to speak. Mine were all over the place as far as cycle timings were concerned, and now I'm heavier towards the end of my period rather than the start.

Have you changed your contraception recently?

Thanks for responding. dd2 is nearly 14 months old and my periods have been back for the past 10 months unfortunately. Also, I'm not on any contraception (apart from condoms or good old abstinance!!!) as I can no longer take the combined pill and I'm really not keen on going down the coil route....

All a bit strange really....

Sounds familiar.

The first day of mine is VERY light. The second day I have to change every hour (two hours if using Mooncup) and three times at night (!). And then light for a couple of days. Not much pain either.

I have also noticed that during this time my piles and varicose veins flare up.

Hope this helps.

i spose if it really inconvenienced you you could go to doctors, get them sorted out, clots can't be much fun?
