Tripped and fell yesterday

Just that really. I feel like a complete idiot.

I was in a busy parking lot and had to cross a high traffic area. Two commercial vans stopped for me, which was nice. So I set out, rushing a bit not to hold them up. There was a speed bump across the path I had to walk. I tripped on the edge of the speed bump and fell. I completely face planted.

My newish eyeglasses are broken and beyond repair. I have a large bruise under my eye. I went down hard on one knee which today has a huge swollen lumpy bruise. Both wrists hurt. My left breast is very sore and a bit swollen. I had to pick bits of gravel out of my left palm.

I made quite a scene. I think I upset a man who started pulling on my arm to help me up. I wanted to get up myself and he was hurting my arm.

Thankfully nothing is broken. I have a whole new appreciation of the dangers of falling. From now on I will wave a driver through rather than rush across.

What a klutz.

Thanks for the sympathy. That is a good question about my glasses. They cost a pretty penny. I will check on insurance.

You poor thing, sounds like you went down with quite a bang.

Keep an eye on your breast and get it checked if the swelling and tenderness doesn't go.

I feel for you, OP. Last week I rushed out to the car wearing steel toe boots, tripped over the curb and faceplanted into the road, narrowly missing a car. During the school run, so the whole village was there. Such fun!

That sounds awful. Are you OK now? It is quite the injury to one's dignity I must say. I wanted to hide somewhere.

Ow! I haven't face planted for a while now- I'm sure my time will come again, though.

I was mostly bruised and took the knee out of my jeans. But it wasn't even the only time I fell that week! My kids left a skateboard outside the back door, just where I could step on it while carrying an arm load of stuff, and then land on my back.

But neither of those falls hurt as much as today. Today I picked up my handbag and somehow that buggered my elbow. That's what turning 40 feels like, I guess 😀

I went down like a sack of shit whilst out for a run a couple of months ago. Thought I'd broken my arm as it took the full force of my not insubstantial weight. Luckily it was 6am so not many people around, but I was very quick to brush off the lovely lady who came to help me up.

I think it's the shock that gets you the most!

Yes, the shock. I just lay there for a while making sure I was ok, and then sat up. It all happened in the blink of an eye. I hope you healed quickly!

Feel for you ok, two weeks I tripped over my own feet running down stairs, Ricocheted against both walls and landed on my side with left hand stuck under me

So I had two matching bruises on both shoulders and index and middle fingers were bruised and still sore now mostly on the knuckle

We need to find a way to ban falls. Not so likely I know but my sympathy to anyone that has crashed!

I am thinking about doing some research about exercise programs to prevent falls. Apparently you can train yourself to help prevent a fall. I was lucky this time. But when I am older it might not be such a good outcome.

That’s no good, OP. I’m in the middle of sorting myself out after a trip that resulted in faceplant. I took the complete weight of my teeth and chin on a wooden floor. I pushed back both front top two teeth, chipping one in half, and fractured my hand. In a week I’m having two root canals , but in the meantime I look horrific - they’re black and have a temporary brace to to hold them in. I’m not even old. Falls can to happen to anyone!

I keep meaning to look into how to not fall or fall better (!) because I am a terrible clumsy one and have had a couple of injuries. I used to go running but now only have one area I stick to which is a great shame.

I really struggle as well if I suddenly need to rush. I’ve had two broken bones in 20s from just ordinary trips and falls.

Oh, TheClaws, that sounds awful. I hope you heal quickly. I am still nursing a huge bruise and scrape on my knee, and a big bruise along the outside of my foot that is very sore. A little concerned I may have broken something in my foot, little toe side, but I can walk on it so it is likely ok. Keeping an eye on it. Dog sitting my little granddog so he gets me out and moving.

Just got back from picking new glasses frames as my old ones could not be fixed. The lenses were under warranty, but I had to buy new frames. I am always surprised how expensive they are. There were huge scratches on one lens. I guess it saved my eye.
