Food poisoning or son’s bug

My toddler had loose stools the end of last week and then sick once on Thursday this week, generally not himself but no fever. Thankfully he’s back to his normal self today.

We had family visiting for his birthday today and had a local Indian takeaway last night. This morning brother in law was sick. Husband has been violently sick (he’s a chef and normally has an iron clad stomach and I’ve never heard him be sick like that) and my sister in law has now been sick. Mother in law was up all night with a fever and d&v.

Only myself and my father in law are ok other than normal post curry stuff. We all shared different dishes.

Surely this is food poising rather than everyone getting my sons bug? I just wanted to see what people though before I contact the relevant department.

Does sound like it.
Did you keep any of the food?
Can you remember what you ate and does it fit with who is ill?

BiscuitDrama · 21/07/2019 08:13

And sounds awful, poor all of you!

We have some leftover tubs of food and Husband is going to do a stool sample. Everyone had a bit of everything I think. I work in the nhs as a physio and in all my years have never had d&v. And spend more time with my son than anyone so if it was his bug I’d assumed I would have been ill by now. Especially as he’s running around like his normally loony self on his birthday.

Could be either. If your son had a very mild dose of norovirus which he passed on to your family then they may have succumbed at the same time.
It sounds a bit grim..... hope you all feel better soon.

There's only one way to tell... A stool sample tested for bacteria and viruses.

We’ve got the stool sample and food ready to send off. Poor DH family have all had to leave. DS is completely fine. I just thought if it were his bugs then he would have been much more poorly. I’m sure we’ll look back this time next year and laugh. Not so much right now.

How are things now? Did you get any results back

Chefwifelife · 25/07/2019 12:34

Everyone’s recovered. Stool sample awaiting results and Eho will follow up depending on that really.
