I'm having one fitted later today and I'm anxious to the point of wanting to throw up. Fgs I've given birth, so why am I going into cold sweats? Please will someone tell me does the so called pinch really pinch? Also will I be in bits afterwads? I feel like an eejit for being so scared.

take 2 nurofen before you go

it is not that bad !

preggersagain · 27/07/2007 11:23

tbh yes it hurt, but for me it was better than getting preggers again (i did have it removed about 6 months ago to try for this baby!)

It hurt while she put it in but for all of about 5 mins, i had cramps and achy feelinbg then for a few days but then nothing- not even periods until i had it removed- which didn't hurt at all!

All in all well worth it- take a couple of paracetamol before you go!

I think it's the pinch bit that's scaring me lulu.

Hiya,

I had my third one fitted last year. Take some painkillers an hour or so before you go. Not really painful, just more uncomfortable.

princessLUCYKATE · 27/07/2007 11:26

it is a little more painful than a smear, take some paracetamol half an hour before you go. i've had 2, the first hurt more than the second but that time the doctor got me to lie on my side to do it and i didn't feel a thing!

i was achy an hour or so afterwards, not to bad.

The clip stings and it isn't comfortable but keep breathing and take some nurofen beforehand !

Hi, I just wanted to thank everyone for your posts earlier. Yes it was slightly uncomfortable and did hut a little but was nowhere as bad as I thought it would be but I did cheat as not only did I take the painkillers but a neighbour gave me a valium that she had left over from when her doctor prescribed them for her fear of flying, so although I'm a little achy and crampy, I'm also a bit floaty!

glad it was ok, i've tired lots of different forms of contraception and find mirena the best

MhamaiJane · 27/07/2007 20:19

I can't tell you how releaved I now am princessLUCYKATE though it certainly wasn't down to the doctors bedside manner, which wasw non existant! Talk about a cold fish, I said I was a tad nervous, to which she replied. "Well you either want this form of contraception or you don't, if you do, well it's going to hurt, there are other forms of contraeption if you don't want to go through with this!" Christ I wanted to box her! She kind of had the upper hand though, I wasn't about to mess with this woman heading for my fanjo with all those instruments!
