My dh has had 2 heart operations - how far apart are your Mum's operations - were they a long time ago?

She had one in xmas 2004 to replace mitral valve then it got blocked so they did an emergency one in xmas 2005 noe they want to replace the other valve in about 4 months time.

Feel bad for you & your Mum. My dh has 8 years between his operations (aortic valve replacements) - I'm guessing she'll feel a lot better once it's done though. Before DH last op he slept 14 hrs a day and was back to his usual self afterwards.

Is she worried about it?

No she is feeling quite positive where she wasn't with the last 2.

She barley cmae round from them the second one was an emergency after she was addmitted to a&e. I know the chances increse with each one.

The emergency bit must have been really stressful for you, and it is true that the operations get a bit more complex every time you have them - due to scar tissue ect but I'm guessing that the Dr/surgeon thinks that there's likely to be a positive outcome?

Not sure really they told her to go home and make a quick decision between.

  1. Not having it and not being here in 6 months time.

or

  1. Having it and it being very risky.

Oh that's awful - hope the Dr didn't put it quite like that. Haven't got any advice really as dh is a differnet sort of situation but am thinking of you - I remember how worried I was for him. Our hospital had a sort of heart op support group and dh found it helpful to talk to others who'd been through the same thing - maybe your Mum's hospital might do something like that?
