A new smell

In recent months I've started noticing a new smell. On men. Like the one next to me on the train right now.
Also my husband and son sometimes.

It's kind of musty and not nice.

Could this be some kind of perimenopausal super smelling ability? I've never had it before

Puzzling.

I have actually had an MRI scan for having 'smells' in my nose that aren't actually real - look up phantosmia

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantosmia

It turned out they can find no cause but it's annoying, started around 3 years ago, I'm 51 now and do think it's related to the menopause Confused

Wow. I don't think it's that because it's definitely people I can smell - but much more acutely than ever previously.

I never really got sensitive sense of smell in pregnancy but am wondering if it's a thing in menopause - I'm 46

Some people are able to smell illness, it seems.
How interesting!

I think it's definitely peri-menopause. I have experienced this myself, although not with men/people. I have always had a very sensitive sense of smell, but ever since I started with peri I have had many occasions of "hyper smell." My silly term, btw.
