I had my tooth extracted last month because of gum abscess on it for months. Now after extraction I'm wondering if it's possible for the gum abscess to come back after tooth extraction????? 😭

Not unless there a retained root.
What symptoms have you got?

Aafi · 27/06/2019 00:28

I have gone through an x-ray after my tooth was extracted, everything looks fine but I just started to notice a tiny bit of bump on the same place where I had the gum abscess boil. It was hardly a cm big, also now it's slightly raised but guess I'm being too paranoid 😬 also the tooth pulled was intact but I had it removed as I had a rct done 3 years back n since then it was the second time I had gum abscess pop up also this time around it wasn't going away even after 3 draining, although was small in size but the name "infection" drain life out of me 😭

Sometimes little chips of the tooth can get left behind, and work their way out through your gum.
Maybe its that?

Shouldn't that show in the x-ray that was took 3 weeks after extraction?

I've had a tiny bit of tooth appear, although I'm not sure I was x rayed after the extraction.

So other than the tooth being left inside, extraction is the permanent elimination of gum abscess right?

The X-ray would show up remaining root/tooth, so that's reassuring.
Much more likely to be bone sequestrum. Think of the extraction socket like an egg shell.

Aafi · 27/06/2019 18:11

So I shouldn't worry about abscess coming back as I've got the tooth extracted now?

No it should all be resolved/resolving now.

Whenever I've had a tooth out with an abscess, the abscess sac has come out attached to the tooth. What you are feeling is probably either scar tissue or the remains of the swelling.

I hope so. Thank you all for the reassurance.

Went to the dentist today, she said that the x-ray shows no signs of infection/abscess so let's hope it's just recovering process and nothing else.
