Pilonidal Whatsit ITCHING LIKE BUGGERY - HELP

I get this recurring thing which, having googled, relates to a tiny hole we have at the base of our tailbone (top of bum crack). I'm not sure if it's a full on Pilonidal Cyst or Sinus or whatever, but every now and then, I get a small bump that itches like FUCK, then if you scratch it, starts to leak a bit of fluid or blood and then is very sore/tender for a couple of weeks.

I have been trying to resist scratching to tend to scratch 'around' it, but that is not relieving the itch. It has woken me up for three nights running now and I just want it to stop. I don't even mind the sore/tender aspect, it's just the bastard itch I can't bear.

I've slapped the usual things on it - Savalon . Eurax (for the itch) and tried instead, keeping it dry, but no change - if anything the itch is worse. I have just had to step out of a meeting at work just to go and lock myself in a loo and 'scratch around it' again.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can put on it that will help it heal quickly but more importantly stop the itch?

hello jaded. I suffered with these turning to abscesses for about 15 years and after a few very painful surgeries under GA I started to deal with them myself.

Do you live near the sea? If yes, get swimming - moving in salt water permeates all the bits of it no amount of showering or rubbing lotion ever can.

If you live nowhere near the sea get a LOT of bags of cheap salt - you know, the 30p/kilo stuff and stick a kilo in a bath twice a day and just sit there reading a book.

Like I say, I absolutely swear by salt immersion.

Time, salt & air... n.b., air at home, not in public! Grin

Thank you @beckywiththesplitends. Sorry yours was so much worse.

I did wonder about a salt bath but probably wouldn't have been as generous with the salt as you described (or as frequent) if you hadn't advised to thanks. It's a good idea to get cheap bags - I can do that tomorrow. So sick of the excruciating itching!!
