DD's great grandma ill in hospital :(

My DD's great grandma/DH's grandad's wife is really poorly in hospital. She had a smaller stroke a couple of months ago, but had a bigger one last night. MIL been in hospital with her most of night, she has just gone to take grandad (her dad) there. Apparantly it is a bad one this time

Grandad himself isn't in best health - already on oxygen at home after previously bad health, etc.

Feel a bit helpless right now. Have known her since a year or so after meeting DH, so over 15 years now.

And we are due to go on holiday on Saturday, with PILs, for a fortnight. No idea what is happening there. Insurance wouldn't cover me and DH, not sure about PILs.

Sorry to hear your news. Hope she is improving.

DH home now and has spoken with his mum. It is his grandad's wife. Waas a large stroke last night. She won't recover from this. Next 48 hours crucial. If she survives it she will go to residential care. She has no understanding right now, doesn't even know her own name No idea what PILs are doing about coming on holiday with us yet - on saturday - too early to say. Grandad wants them too, and if she survices next couple of days chances are they will come away. We are only in France so not far to come back should she need to. Our travel insurance and FIL's wouldn't cover us anyway. Her grandaughters are local now and will take over somewhat. Grandad has a lot of support also.

How is she doing now?

Hulababy · 19/10/2007 16:40

Had call from MIL.

Grandma is very ill, having spent the past few weeks in a hospice type hospital. She now weighs less than 4.5 stone and is taking in no food or liquids. She has been moved to a private room nearest the nurse's station.

Very sad

Just to update incase anyone was actually reading at all. She died this morning, AFAIK it was peacefully in her sleep, soemtime in the early hours. Grandad seems okay at the moment, busy sorting things at present.

We haven't told DD yet. Katz's and family were here overnight and were here when MIl called this morning. DD has gone off to Sunday School with Katz and the girls. We will tell her tonight.

Sorry to hear your news hulababy. My thoughts are with you and your family.

My gran is very poorly and we saw her a couple of weeks ago. The change in her was dramatic and dd was very shocked. Now keeps talking about her and got a bit fixated on heaven etc. Guess she's just trying to work it all out

Thanks for your thoughts.

Sorry to hear about your gran

DD hasn't seen her grandma in hospital. We had decided there was no benefit to either. So, DD's last memory of visiting her was a very happy one. She does however know she has been veryvery poorly, so it shouldn't be too big a shock as such.
