Hand foot and mouth in ADULTS?

user1465146157 · 02/06/2019 23:23

Hi - I know it's known to be a young child illness but I have some symptoms as an adult - anyone have experience of this?

I'm confused as some of my symptoms don't entirely match whats on google.

I have developed around 6 or 7 blisters on my hands, and then some small red dots on my feet. They are painful to walk on, only noticeable when im walking - and look different to the ones on my hands.

Hands are like proper blisters with a grey middle, just appeared from nowhere and very painful to touch, so hurts to wash hands, put jeans on for example. Feet are just red, flat dots.

I'm reading you get flu-like symptoms BEFORE you get the blisters usually - but I felt fine, but after 2 days with the spots I suddenly feel ill. My mouth does feel sore and a Bit like I've eaten something sharp, but not as bad as described online.

I've become achey and exhausted tonight with a bit of jaw ache so im thinking its all related.

any thoughts on what this could be? does it sound like hand foot and mouth?

I'm still walking around just feel like I have the onset of an illness.

Sounds like it! My kids were particularly bad tempered before the spots

Absolutely. I caught it from my DD. Have never been more ill than I was with HFM. Took a good couple of months for me to feel recovered. Horrendous.

My 18 year old had it recently, rash was horrendous looking and he was dreadfully tired with it.

is it usual to have the rash with no symptoms?
I've read online that you start to feel ill first but for me it's been the other way around

Yes,you can get just a couple of blisters and feel well, kids can continue going to school with it.

Yes sounds like you’ve got it.

It can vary from horrendous to very mild.

When I had it it was a sign of a compromised immune system so do think about your general health.

My husband caught it from our son. He didn’t get the flu-like symptoms at all. He had bad blisters in his mouth and a few on his hands. He said it was worse than we he had appendixitis! Another friend caught it from her daughter and she got blisters on her feet and could hardly walk for a week! Hope yours is a mild case OP!

I had it as an adult and I felt bloody awful with it for a good few days, my symptoms didn't appear until after the rash did.

I caught it off ds, ended up at A & E being given steroids & antihistamines. Lost the skin on soles of my feet, palms of hands, couldn't sit down from sores on my bum.

Jinxed2 · 07/06/2019 10:05

I had it a few years ago. It was awful was unwell for a couple of weeks. Lost skin on hands and feet and also my nails!

Skyejuly · 07/06/2019 10:07

Between me and 4 kids we all had HFM but all had slightly different symptoms!

Easilyflattered · 08/06/2019 10:37

When I had it aged 31 I felt lousy but had the spotty mouth, hands and feet just like the kids. I remember my hands being itchy before breaking out in spots.

PollyPelargonium52 · 08/06/2019 11:39

I remember getting this when ds was about age two and I didn't feel at all well. We both had it together.

I think I got this 2 weeks ago. I had about 8 mouth ulcers inc one on that tendon under my tongue. A few spots on my hands and sore feet and achey wrists. And general zero energy and flu like symptoms (these things always affect my digestion). It's grim!
