Triple negative breast cancer

Anyone else been diagnosed with the same? I'm 31, currently going through chemo with surgery and radiotherapy planned for later this year. Just feeling a bit down about it all at the moment (fatigue is setting in more and more).

Does anyone have any kind words of wisdom/a hand hold for me?

Agree Cancer Support #70 is very supportive and there are people on there with Triple Negative Breast cancer. There is a closed group on Facebook as well which my daughter found very helpful when she was diagnosed with TNBC last year aged 34. Good luck with your treatment I know it’s tough while you are going through it

Macmillan forum is good support. Mine was ER positive so different altogether but my good friend was diagnosed with triple negative about seven years ago and is doing really well.
She took up exercise big time and stopped drinking alcohol completely so now looks fabulous too.

If you look at the stats early (1-3) Triple negative cancers has a recurrence rate (in first 3 years of remission) of 30% as opposed to 15% for positive cancers, and once you get to 5 years the prognosis is actually better than positive breast cancers. It’s also more responsive to chemo than positive cancers so even if it recurs it can often responds really well to successive treatments.

If you turn the stats on their head it means 70% of all women who get diagnosed with 1-3 triple negative cancers don’t don’t get a recurrence in 5 years. Bear in mind that most women are diagnosed with ‘early’ triple negative bc are diagnosed at stage 3 and you have every reason to remain positive.

Just sat in the hospital now receiving treatment, and had a good cry to the nurse! But feeling better for it. I think I spend most days putting on a brave face but it's getting harder and harder to do.

Hi OP, I'm in a fairly similar situation - age 33, but hormone positive breast cancer, and currently going through chemotherapy. I sob my way through most appointments (even appointments that are just for a picc line cleaning!). The slog is really, really hard, and I'm not up to the effort of putting on a brave face. All the best with your treatment. You aren't alone.

Hi Frinkle and sorry you find yourself in this situation. It really is shit. Do pop in and say hello in the cancer thread if you are up to it. You'll get loads of support. I lurked for ages before I fell brave enough to post but I'm glad I did.

My sister was diagnosed shortly after turning 49. She had three surgeries including a reduction, chemo and radiotherapy. She will be 54 in a few months and so far all is well.
