Question about blood results/infection

2 replies

lisad123 · 22/07/2007 13:15

I have been discharged from hopsital after possible kindey stone/kidney infection. I had IV antibiotics and now on a weeks worth oral ones
The doc said my wee showed infection and the blood test showed raised markers.
What do they mean by markers? What would it shows as on a blood result? they have all these silly letter things that make no sense to me. I know its not that important but like to know.
they noted Wcc was high as was CRP

Thanks to anyone that can help

Lisa

WCC = white cell count
CRP = C reactive protein
marker = markers of infection/inflammation

Both raised would be a marker of infection and as expected with a kidney infection
CRP may be raised with a stone but WCC probably not
Need to be repeated in few weeks to esure back to normal

Thanks so much, I got bored of waiting so looked up online. Both were raise, my CRP was double the normal range.
I will ask them to recheck once i finished treatment, didnt think about that. Cheers for the answer
