Accessing my results before consultancy??

I’m waiting for results on a lump which was found in my bladder. I’m already angry with the nhs as they refused to fast track me because I am under 40 even though I had telltale symptoms so this has been going on for almost a year now.

Tumour was removed two and a half weeks ago, appointments rung me yesterday and said I have to wait until next Friday to see the consultant to get my results.

I appreciate someone needs to understand what they are talking about to give me the results but is there any way on this earth to get the results now? Do I not have rights to access them?

I am absolutely well and truly done waiting, good or bad I want those results today so I can start dealing with this. A week doesn’t sound like a lot but it’s a lifetime right now.

Can my GP surgery help? Are the hospital allowed to refuse to send them to me? Does anyone know how this works?

Another sleepless night I am at my wits end now and knowing my results are ready and just shut in a draw for another week is making me feel sick and angry.

Everyone I know who has had a lump removed then tested for cancer have been seen almost immediately if the results were positive. It's pointless being angry, but I can understand your frustration.

You don’t understand my frustration, I’ve been turned away from GP surgery 8 times and when I finally got an appointment with a consultant after a 6 month wait I was fobbed off in a side room with a medical student which set me back another 3 months. I have every right to be angry right now and I want my results.

Gp won't have them, the interpretation is a specialist thing and you'll need to wait, but yes bad news is usually fast tracked.

So is this not fast tracked? The disciplinary meeting was yesterday and they’ve booked me in for next Friday with the consultant? Would they generally have you in quicker I’m not sure if one week is fast or not

Difficult to say but would probably be sooner if a cancer. Really sorry for your stress but please don't hassle the GP. you could call consultant secretary and let them know you'll come at short notice if anyone cancels their appt. Basically care can be any two of good, cheap and quick and you have the first two.

I've been through this process, twice, with my husband.

They may well tell you on the phone if you ask. They did with us. I regretted it. If it is bad news you need to know all the info. Being told on the phone leaves you totally floundering, on your own until the appointment. Being told bad news at the appointment is much more preferable - they can also give you an action plan and reassurance.

If you really need to know then call them.

If you're angry about the way you have been dealt with then call PALS and or Healthwatch.

I tried asking reception but she said she wasn’t qualified so gave me the number for the urology nurses and they just never answer or return the calls. Its so frustrating.

I will contact PALS, I know I’m young but symptoms surely should have to count for something... if not everything.

I had to contact PALS after a scan took 3 weeks to come back. My GP had been fobbed off and she suggested it. It was sent to the GP within hours. Your case is different because it's a consultant who has asked for it but worth a try at PALS.

I was going to say PALS too. However, tread carefully because the PALS staff are not supposed to divulge details from your medical notes. They did for me (everything was 'normal' in my case) but they made it clear it was not allowed. However I was delighted they did .they helped enormously.

I think it it was cancer you be seen much sooner / called immediately.

When you say disciplinary - has the consultant been disciplined about this?

Doctors hold multi disciplinary meetings (MDT) to discuss certain patients, including new cancers but also others.

Ah! I've never heard an MDT referred to in that way.

Op if she's saying she isn't qualified it's more than likely she can't pronounce all the big words on the report, seriously.

Ring them and read the nice guidelines to them.worked like a miracle for my friend.they even got the top consultant in the trust in to see her as a result. It's worth reading them and quoting tuem if they're outside them.

My DH (44 on diagnosis) has had bladder cancer. He went to our GP after spotting blood in his urine and was fast tracked immediately on a cancer pathway.
He did have cancer but luckily it was caught at a very early stage. It was aggressive though, he has had 3 lots of tumours removed and 2 chemo bladder washouts. Now in remission and just moved to annual checkups for reoccurrence.

Contact PALS and complain to your GP practice manager. This is not an acceptable way to treat a potential cancer patient.

The OP hasn't said what her presenting symptoms are - if they met the 2ww cancer pathway criteria then they should be referred on that route, but not if they didn't. You can't possibly know that she should have been referred on the cancer pathway.

A couple of your threads came up when I was searching bladder growths. I’d be really interested to hear how your appointment went, etc. I hope well and you’re doing ok. Sorry to seem like I’m prying but my aunt is going through similar. She is finding the wait very difficult.
