Conjunctivitis

Hello.

I have conjunctivitis. It started Thursday evening, with it being gritty and itchy and feeling like something was in it. It then started leaking green, quite thick goo.
I went to the pharmacy on Friday morning where he confirmed conjunctivitis and gave me chloramphenicol eye drops.
I have used them according to the pharmacists instructions since friday morning and my eye is still no better. Apparently i should have started to see an improvement by now Confused
Its still bloodshot, sore and leaking discharge, although it isn't thick and green, its yellow and watery.

Anyway, if no better tomorrow I'll get medical advice, I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to help my eye feel less sore and itchy.

Oh and so as not to drip feed, the lymph node on the right hand side of my face (on the jawline, under the ear) is swollen and painful too. Apparently its a sign my body is fighting the infection, so any advice in how to help that feel.less sore is also appreciated.

Poor you! Hate conjunctivitis!
I had a really bad infection once due to my contacts, and the doctor recommended bathing it with the likes of Johnsons no more tears baby shampoo! Just on a cotton wool pad.
It really helps, if you have some in give it a try, and get booked in at doctors, they will probably give something stronger.

You poor thing. A wet (squeezed out) tea bag is supposed to be quite soothing for sore eyes, could be worth a go for some relief

moreismore · 26/05/2019 20:16

Ouch! It’s possible you have a viral infection so the antibiotics wouldn’t work. Also possible that you’ve been very unlucky and whatever bug you have is resistant. You don’t want to mess around with eyes so I’d get someone to look at it tomorrow if at all possible. Hope it’s better soon.

HerRoyalFattyness · 26/05/2019 20:56

No johnsons, but will try the teabag thanks.
I'm going to phone 111 tomorrow morning if there's no improvement still and see what they suggest, as it is my eye and my dad is blind in one eye and my mum has suspected glaucoma.
Hopefully its just a stubborn case of conjunctivitis.

When DD had it I was told to wipe her eye with boiled and cooled water on a cotton pad. Only use it once, so if there’s too much gunge for 1 wipe use a second pad.

If the pharmacy is open tomorrow go back and talk to them again. Really hope it clears up PDQ.

HerRoyalFattyness · 26/05/2019 21:44

Ive been doing that adora
Ive just taken some piriton in case its a reaction to the eye drops making it so sore.

I've got this too. Pretty sure it's the adenovirus. Have felt utter crap and it's been ongoing for 10 days now. Swollen lymph nodes are a sign of it apparently.

Eyes have been so painful, swollen, gunky and sore. Had two sets of antibiotics eye drops but they've not helped. Ive honestly not felt this ill for ages.

Optometrist advised cold compress to eyes, lubricating eye drops, pain relief and rest.

Phoned 111. Im in A and E now. Ugh. Just how i wanted to spend my bank holiday monday!

Doctor has no idea what is wrong with me other than "some sort of infection which caused the conjunctivitis and is now spreading to your head and throat"

So I've to continue using the eye drops, take penicillin, 30/500 cocodamol and ibuprofen and if no better by wednesday back to hospital.

have a look at this

I'm on day 11 now and still feeling crappy. Eyes are not as red but still sticky and stuck together in the mornings. Bit blurry in the day. Major headache, my eye sockets were so painful. Could actually touch them at all.

It feels viral. Just rest, lots of fluid and pain relief. Eyes drops have helped. Hope you feel better.

jollyohh · 29/05/2019 18:16

How you feeling op?

HerRoyalFattyness · 29/05/2019 20:01

Just been back to hospital. Eye is getting worse.
I've an appointment at the eye clinic tomorrow afternoon to hopefully get to the bottom of it once and for all.b

How many doses of the antibiotics have you had fatty? I’d be inclined to go to your GP tomorrow, or nurse practitioner if GP appointments are more rare than hens teeth where you are.

HerRoyalFattyness · 29/05/2019 20:41

Well been on eye drops since friday, oral antibiotics since monday.

That's good you've got an appointment at the eye clinic. Eye infections are really horrible.

Hopefully they'll be able to it out ASAP

HerRoyalFattyness · 30/05/2019 15:34

Update on my gammy eye

I have a strep infection causing my face to swell but the eye is psuedomembrane conjunctivitis caused by adenovirus. (You were right jolly!)
So they had to scrape my eye clear, i have to continue with antibiotics for the infection, use 2 different types of eye drops and hope it clears up in the next 4 or 5 weeks and go back monday morning for another scraping...

OP posts:
jollyohh · 30/05/2019 16:39

Oh you poor thing. The scrap sounds horrible.

I still feel crappy and have had it for two weeks now. My face was swollen too, even my tongue Hmm Eyes are starting to feel a bit better though but still blurry and gunky.

Rest has definitely helped, along with regular eye care & pain relief m. I'm mainlining the vitamin C.

Hope you feel better soon.

HerRoyalFattyness · 30/05/2019 16:56
