How long will this virus last. Anyone else suffering?!

Had a raging temperature, body aches, cough, green phlegm, racing heart, fizzy throat and ears, blocked runny nose and no sleep for 3 days/nights. Just an hour here and there.

Any ideas how long I will be I’ll for?! Going on holiday in 4 weeks hopefully fully recovered by then?!

The fever would point to flu, not a cold, so 10-14 days or so for most cases.

Is your general health okay?

CartWHEEL2008 · 25/05/2019 22:52

Thanks. Yes it is. Really suffering with this though. I can hear my heartbeat so fast in my head

Flu is awful. Did you have the flu jab last fall?

CartWHEEL2008 · 25/05/2019 23:56

No I never have it. I should maybe from now on

Dh & I have similar. We’ve both had the flu jab so apparently haven’t got it as badly. But it’s hell. Dcs doing GCSEs so praying they don’t get it.

I'm a nurse. You'd be shocked at how often it goes into pneumonia and puts people in hospital. Everyone who can get it should get the flu jab.

Notashandyta · 26/05/2019 09:18

Our family is down with it. Somehow I'm the worst. It's definitely flu, second time I've had it in my life (I'm 40). And of the second week here and I think I've finally turned a corner this morning. So it is about! Where are you, out of interest, op? I'm South Wales...

And yes, will defo be getting the flu jab this year.

Gorillaandme · 26/05/2019 09:21

I've had same and I'm just starting to recover 3 weeks later. I think you will be fine for your holiday.

CartWHEEL2008 · 26/05/2019 09:54

Yes I’ve had pneumonia before. Flu which went horribly wrong and I ended up in hospital for a week. I was worried I had pneumonia again so went to the walk in last night, they said it was a virus.
I’m in The West Midlands.

I haven't had had flu since I was a child so never had a flu jab. I would if I was in the increased risk group but I've heard lots of people saying that they were really bad after the flu jab.Confused

I’ve been suffering for more than 2 weeks now with this. I’m exhausted. Woken up with sore throat again. It’s affecting my bowels also.

I think I’m going to try the gp as I also have RA & can’t take my meds (immunosuppressant) while I’m unwell which means my RA is horrendous at the moment. I can’t take another broken night & another day of pain.

If any medical professionals out there is it worth me trying to get an emergency appointment or a waste of time? TIA

IHeartArya · 07/06/2019 05:47

I don’t think it’s hayfever as I’ve been taking antihistamines. But my phlegm is clear. Lots of mucous but clear! But I’ve had low level temperatures also.

Very confusing.

IamEarthymama · 07/06/2019 06:09

I have felt really poorly all this week. I don't seem to get horrendous coughs and sneezing so much recently but the whole body aching from head to toe, exhaustion, headaches, runny nose, etc thing.
I am feeling very low and fed up too as I have so much gardening to do.

Sending commiserations to everyone who is suffering from a miserable South Walian woman, and, yes, it's doing the rounds here.

codenameduchess · 07/06/2019 06:19

I'm with you op, and go on holiday in 4 days 😬 also pregnant so limited on what I can take.

IHeartArya · 07/06/2019 11:28

I’ve been to gp & given antibiotics-

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/06/2019 00:40

I’ve been really poorly for the past week - started last Monday with swollen yellow-y tonsils and an excruciating sore throat, by Wednesday a fever and hacking cough. It seemed to then go into a horrible cold, and while I am no longer miserable I still have a cough, and SO much mucus. I was actually off work Wednesday - Friday because I felt so unwell, then had to come home at lunchtime on Monday.
