Is anger a normal symptom of PMT?

I've never really suffered anything other than mild physical symptoms but over the last few months I can become really irritable and angry for no obvious reason a day or 2 before my period is due.

And I don't always know when my period is due because I'm in the early stages of the menopause. Or is this a symptom of the menopause itself?

I'm having to steer clear of ds today

I think so! My anger has gone through the roof as i have aged
maybe i am early menopause too at 43yrs

Mercy · 20/07/2007 16:04

It's horrible isn't it?

I'm 43 too (well, almost 44 actually). I had to walk out of the room today when ds started a mini-tantrum - I could feel my anger rising swiftly and was genuinely afraid that I might react physically.

I'm not all like that normally.

as i've got older i have found that anger is now one of my symptoms too - horrible, isn't it?

hennipenni · 20/07/2007 16:11

I am 39 and get very angry for 7 -10 days before my period is due, i also can't stand any physical contact either

Mercy · 20/07/2007 16:15

Do you find this happens each time your period is due? Or just every so often?

I had terrible anger pmt for about 14 months after ds2 was born (I'm 39). It was shocking. I'm much much better now - I've been back to no pmt at all for the last 5 months. Bliss.

No doubt the menopause is just round the corner instead....

I feel like I'm going to burst with anger and frustration for a couple of days. It is hellish - for dh too

allgonebellyup · 20/07/2007 16:30

God, yes.

i would say anger and extreme irritation at the slightest thing are signs that my period is on its way.

Sadly this anger meant it spilled over into my relationship more than once a month and now we are no longer together.

PeachesMcLean · 20/07/2007 16:30

Is anger normal. God I hope so or else I'm a complete freak. GRRRRR!!!!!!

TootyFrooty · 20/07/2007 16:30

God yes - the frustration was terrible. I think evening primrose oil is meant to help?

What you need is to buy Magnesium Ok tablets and try them for 3 months, they work like a dream for me...full of zinc and vitamin B12 in v huge amounts, which balance out your hormones and make you feel much calmer...

PeachesMcLean · 20/07/2007 16:39

Another vote for Magnesium OK. Miraculous stuff. Thankfully I'm not as bad as I used to be so don't bother any more, but they really got me through a rough patch.

Mercy · 20/07/2007 16:41

Thank you both - will give them a try then.

Hi, where do you get the magnesium tablets from? I'd like to try them. I get an extremely firey temper just for one or two days during the few days before my period is due. I scare myself sometimes when I'm shouting, so god knows how scary I must be to my poor DD. I'm 29, please tell me this is not early menopause! I really want to do something about it, but was too embarrassed - thought it was just me. Such a relief to see others go through it too.

allgonebellyup · 20/07/2007 17:50

you can buy Magnesium ok from any herbal type shop or chemist eg tesco and boots i think. i got mine off ebay for half the price though!!
i am 28 so close to your age, and no its probably not early menopause!
