Do the surgery make contact?

So I had a prolonged period of getting headaches and dizzy spells frequently with no obvious cause.. mentioned it to the nurse when i went for a smear. She took some bloods just to check all was ok. I went on holiday the next day and to be honest thought no more of it and presumed if anything untoward came back in bloods they would contact me. 3 months on and i mentioned to a friend over coffee this morning that i had been feeling off again and she suggested getting bloods checked, i said they were done a few months back and she asked what they said.. I said well they have not contacted so i guess nothing to worry about she kind of pulled a face and said i should have rang them they wont ring you! So now i am worrying that they could be sitting on results i need treatment for and i have left it!! Surely they would have rang me if they needed to follow up?? I am in UK ( nhs doctor) if this means anything. Thanks for reading

Could they have rung you but you did t answer because you were on holiday?
I'd phone the surgery and ask.

In my experience, they usually do phone you if something is amiss...but I'd still check because occasionally things get overlooked for various reasons. Just phone and check, so you know for sure.

At my GP surgery they wont ring you if the results are normal but you are told to ring and check the results in case they go missing. Recently my daughter had blood tests and was severely anaemic and they called back within 24 hours to let us know and to prescribe medication.

At the surgery i work at they will try and call two or three times if there is something seriously wrong wirh the results and then send a letter saying we need to speak to you. , but the general rule is it is the patients responsibility to call to get the results of any tests. We have nearly 25,000 patients abd it would be impossible to have someone phoning all patient test results to then.

I would say that if they needed to see you and couldn't get an answer on the phone, they would write to you.

Sorry i never came back.. reason i posted on here instead of ringing the surgery was because the phone lines are only open to appointments until after mid day and i was working (11am-8pm) so until after the surgery shut leading to a bank holiday weekend. So apologies for thinking i could ask the question on here hoping for an idea / reassurance until i could phone today but many Thanks to all who responded.

So i spoke to them today and explained and they said had it been urgent they would have absolutely made contact but as it happens they did say the doctor wanted to speak to me about my vitamin D levels and she made an appointment for her to ring me end of next week when she is in to discuss this. So again guessing its not urgent if they have not got me in to see someone sooner and a telephone consultation is sufficient.
