Night sweats

Anyone have any experience or suggestions to what causes these horrors?

I'm 5 months postpartum and have been having them for about a month. I now have to sleep on a towel and shower as soon as I get up. My jammies stick to me, and I've had to change them at 4am a few times.

I've been to GP as I'm also having joint pain, but she didn't seem concerned about the sweats. They're starting to stress me out as googling indicates they can be a symptom of something more serious.

I assume you mean that you have discovered that they are symptoms of leukaemia. Remember that it is a very rare condition.

But it probably should be excluded - and I would suggest that you go back to your GP and ask if they will do a full blood count (cheap, simple, quick test) that can rule it out, and perhaps be s useful baseline for other investigations.

Because, as blood cancer is rare, and hormonal upsets are quite common, then that needs to be looked into as well

Night sweats can be a sign of many illnesses iVampire not just leukemia.
Op I had terrible night sweats and was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Not fun. But I had OTHER symptoms too.
Many people have them for no reason at all, they just get hot easily, get your bloods done to put your mind at rest.

Have you been taking ibuprofen? That always gives me terrible night sweats. Obviously get checked by the doctor but there may be an innocent explanation.

Breast feeding? I had terrible night sweats then

I went to the Dr about my night sweats as they were debilitating after birth! She said I'd lost a fair amount of blood and my iron was probably still low. I had to take strong prescription iron tablets. Ask your dr about that! Mine stopped around the 5/6 month mark

I had really bad night sweats postpartum. I was breastfeeding. It was my body's way of dealing with changing hormone levels. It took a good while before it evened out. I also had hair loss, the sore joints and tingling fingers. Symptoms similar to menopause (which is also a change in hormones). Step away from Google. It's most likely nothing to worry about. If your symptoms persist, go to your GP.

Do you really need the PJs ?

Wearing anything in bed seems to raise my temperature over the course of the night. I usually start wearing just a T-shirt for comfort and remove them just before I fall asleep.

Irvin the middle of the night when I wake up too, too hot.

I've been to GP and have been referred to rheumatology. Bloods show signs of infection and inflammation, but not arthritis. It's all very odd.

I may abandon the jammies, and thinking about using a sheet instead of duvet. Room isn't hot so not environmental.

I thought hormonal at first as tied in with hair loss, but been going on for weeks and bloods show there is something not right.

I was fine until 4 months pp when they started. Bf never worked for us due to massive blood loss at birth.

Are your toilet habits normal? Tummy aches?

Sprintfinish · 23/05/2019 15:31

No tummy aches but toilet trips have increased. I've to hand in a stool sample.

Sounds like the GP is on it. Good luck Op!

Sprintfinish · 25/05/2019 09:34

Thanks. GP certainly covering many bases but unable to suggest cause. Rheumatology appointment not for weeks, I can't bear the thought of putting up with these sweats for that long.

Sprintfinish I've been looking for posts like yours, did you ever find out the issue, has it got better? Hope so. Also wondering as I'm 5 months post-birth and I have terrible joint pain all over. Hoping it's hormones but worried it's arthritis even though tests came back clear. Thought I should also share that I have postpartum hyperthyroidism. I'm sure you've been tested but if not, do get tested as it seemed to be the cause of all sorts of symptoms including night sweats. On meds now and sweating has stopped but not the joint pain.
