Anyone know anything about the DEPO injection?

I get it for v. heavy periods, caused by my fibroids. I also get it every 10 weeks instead of every 12. It is due on MOnday (23rd) and I'm away to my mums. I was at the doctor last night, I was supposed to get it from him, but because I hadn't had my meds for 10days and was feeling ill because of this I forgot all about it, I was more worried about getting ym meds.
Anyway I can't get a Dr's appointment for today unless I phone up at 8am, and the only appointments they would be able to give me would be after 4pm.
What I want to know is will it be ok to wait until the 30th July to get it, 1 week later than it was due - even though I'm not guarenteed an appointment as "all the appointments for that day were relased no Monday"

I had depo years ago before I conceived dd. I didn't get af at all whilst I was having mine. My last injection was in the April, didn't get af until the November and conveived dd in the January. I am confident one week would not make a difference. hth

Out of nosiness, have you put on weight since having the Depo?

I was on it for about 15 months and put on a lot of weight during that time. I found it made me really hungry and crave junk food. I don't need to go on it now as dh had the snip but I also get very heavy periods. Very tempting to go back on but don't want to put on weight iyswim.

I went on the depo injection in 1999 and stayed on it for just under 5 years. It was marvellous and I would recommend it however it is a medical fact that it will increase your appetite and you will either have to be careful what you eat or be happy to gain a few pounds. Periods stopped all together within a couple of months and I didn't come off it until I started aplnning the little one. Try your local family planning clinic also for injections, I used to alternate between my drs and the clinic for injections depending who could see me when I needed them too.

I have put weight on. I wasn't too keen to go on it, but having the fibroids made my periods awful. I was actually on the floor on my hands and knees crying with the pain, and was getting through 6 packs of towels (couldn't use tampax, they were no sooner in than they had to changed) in 3 days.
Sorry that was bit TMI wasn't it?

It's good for contracepiton, I get forgetful and was always forgetting to take my pill. I'm just anxious that I'm going to have to wait a week!
Would a family planning clinic mind if I phoned and asked their advice?

I used to alternate between both my gp and the fam plan clinic. Give your local one a call and ask what day they do their drop in clinics locally. Most towns have one so you may be able to get one either in your town or another one locally to you. Just explain you usually have your depo with gp but can't get an app't.
