My GS has just had a MRI for headaches. And we have just been told that he has "Cerebral White Matter Hyperintensity" I'm a bit freaked out about this. Has anyone had or heard about such a thing? Any information would be helpful. He's only 5 and the love of my life.

Hi sorry to hear you are all going through this. I cannot find anything helpful online. All i have found is this..
"Cerebral white matter hyperintensities (WMH) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are part of the spectrum of brain vascular injury accompanying aging and are associated with a substantial risk of stroke and dementia."

Im not sure if this is relevant though. Im sure because of his age it doesnt mean this. I hope you find the right information soon. What have the doctors said about it?

I've had a Google for you, but couldn't find anything concrete, seems it could be a matter of things. Does he have asd traits? How worrying for you, I hope it turns out to be nothing

Don't stress. No one can diagnose your DGS over the internet but an MRI may show cerebral white matter hyperintensities in children with headaches/migraine that have no known cause. They usually stay the same and have no physical or neurological effect.

I had an mri that showed a tiny - their word- white matter hypersensitivity. My GP explained that was absolutely normal and might even just a vein that shows as such because of the extreme sensitivity of the mri machine.

What would matter is the size and number of them.
