Anyone suffer with restless legs?

For years I've struggled with restless legs, usually when I'm tired. But recently my boyfriend has been complaining that I thrash my legs about when I'm asleep, sometimes so badly that he can't share a bed with me. Has anyone any experience of this and if so, how did you solve the problem?

I had this and turned out I had a magnesium deficiency. One of the main symptoms can be restless legs, cramps, twitches etc. Having high anxiety/stress can make it loads worse too

Agree that a magnesium supplement or a potassium supplement could help. Also take a bath with a good handful of Epsom salts in.

Magnesium oil spray has worked for me too, I use it every night before bed 😀

Snufflepiglet · 12/05/2019 16:46

Yes magnesium supplements and spray help but hasn't totally cured it. Will be following in case someone knows a miracle cure!

I have restless legs - never heard of magnesium being the culprit! I know years back when I had bloods tested for something else, the doc said I was low on potassium - so I started eating bananas Grinbut maybe I should look into some magnesium supplements too...

I used to have terrible restless legs but hrt has cured it.

Magnesium AND potassium cured mine, also cramps. I use supplements (not the oil, which didn't really help). Have been taking both for three years now and wouldn't be without them, best supplements cure I've ever had. Also seems to have taken away morning headaches.

Being dehydrated can make it worse too. I used to hardly ever drink water and suffered badly with it but I have 3 litres a day now and it’s gone

Aria999 · 12/05/2019 17:08

Had it in pregnancy, magnesium also helped. Occasionally also got out of bed to do hamstring stretches

Creas35 · 12/05/2019 17:09

Iron tablets helped mine but only get it in pregnancy

Try drinking tonic water before bed. The quinine prevents restless legs.

As a minor heads up - I got the magnesium spray for legs and it burned so badly I had to wash it off (and didn’t cure the restless legs!) - I take the marine magnesium and it really helps

Magnesium cream did the same duchess. Has sat in my drawer ever since. I need to start taking the tablets again

Snufflepiglet · 13/05/2019 05:36

I got this one and it doesn't even tingle www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00P2N1T4G?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I’ve had restless legs ever since I was a young child. Most of my family get it too. Could magnesium deficiency still be responsible? I can’t get rid of it, but I avoid tight trousers, tights, high boots (like knee high) and it helps it a bit.
