Help!! On holiday DH has hookworm!

Desperately need advice..
We are on holiday at the moment, DH noticed a red line slowly getting longer up his foot.
We have googled it and it looks exactly like hookworm.

The on site doctor came to see him, and said it was either a hookworm or sandworm infection 🤢
He has been prescribed Lotriderm cream (other names on box are Clotrimazole and Bethamethasone Dipropionate)
Is this the correct medication to kill off the infection?

And is it contiguous? We have small children, I'm worried about them catching it!

If it's hookworm he needs oral medication to kill it. That cream is an antifungal and steroid so won't treat the hookworm infection

www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/skin-hair/a7042/lotriderm-cream-betamethasone-clotrimazole/ says its antifungal so useless against hookworm

Hookworm can be treated easily with a number ofanthelminthic medications—like albendazole, mebendazole, and pyrantel pamoate—designed to rid the body of the parasites. These drugs are taken by mouth over the course of one or three days, depending on the type of medication and its dose, and can be given to kids as young as one year old.

Did just write a message and attach a photo..I can't see my last post will try again!

So they have prescribed the wrong medication 😔
Is there a difference between a hookworm and sandworm infection?
Is it contagious?
And is it dangerous?

Sorry I suffer crippling anxiety, so things like this cause me to panic tremendously 😔

Can you tell what it is from the photo?

I truly appreciate all the responses so far!
MN is fantastic for stuff like this..
thank you so very much!

Googling suggests sandworm is a colloquial term for hookworm. I don't think it can be passed on. I'd keep everyone's shoes on from now on!

Not helpful or relevant but your dh has a lovely looking foot.

Hope he gets the right treatment for it soon.

Depending on where you are, might be able to purchase it over the counter at a chemist.
