Period pants for teens

So DD (13) has just started her periods. It’s all a bit new at the moment and she’s using the teen pads.

She’s very sporty so I was thinking about investing in some period pants. Could anyone recommend a brand? Possibly the ones that are leak proof first of all (not the ones you wear without protection - although would love some feedback on these).

Also, when is a good time to introduce tampons? It’s all a bit daunting to her at the mo.

Thinx also do a teen style I think, but have had some dodgy blog stuff on their website ( referring to women as “bleeders” ).

Ive not tried these, but theyre a lot better value than the others, so might be worth trying out?

My 11 yr old wears Thinx. She has had her periods for about six months. The pants have worked very well for her day and night.

I offered her towels, tampons and pants. I explained the mechanics of each product. She choose the pants.

My DD started her period on a Sunday and on Tuesday night she used tampons as she swims competively, she wasn’t that keen but I didn’t want her to miss training every month. She is 12 1/2 and after a few attempts with me help she managed.

I think to have the security that you won’t leak will bring such peace of mind. I wish they had them when I was younger!

I'm so pleased someone else has asked this, DD (12) has started this week, is horrendously heavy and has leaked a few rimes and is mortified by it. She was using teen lilets but they've been useless so has been wearing maxi pads.
I think I'm going to check these out from her.
She's so upset and it's really painful too so these may at least help with the leaks.

It seems quite a harsh thing to deal with at the time doesn’t it? Dealing with school, sports lessons, clubs etc and having to get used to remembering to change pads and dealing with the pain and discomfort.

I know we all went through it; my mum wasn’t nearly as supportive as I am to my DD. I was given a pack of huge pads and left to get on with it!

What do they do when it’s swimming lessons or when on a summer holiday if they aren’t using tampons yet? I honestly can’t remember that far back!

@Bellini12, I've wondered that with swimming too, I recall my school being quite understanding about it as long as we had a note. I guess it would be emailed now!
And my mum was the same- I thought I was seriously ill, so I called her into the bathroom. She said "yes, your monthlies are here", chucked a packet of Kotex at me, and walked out. I had to ask my friend's mum what the hell was going on. No wonder we are non contact these days (still speak to my friend and her mum though).

Any recommendations for teen period pants

Honestly imo they get used to it very quickly the less fuss made (not suggesting you are making a fuss!) No need for designated period pants. Today's pads are really good not like the rubbish thick leaky ones of years ago.

'Always' pads are great and regarding tampons, ours started periods young at 11 but by 13/14 were happily using tampons as they felt fresher.
