Sprained ankle - any tips?

I sprained my ankle tripping on the stairs on Sunday. I phoned 111 and they advised it is most likely a sprain as I can just about walk on it (although very painful) and I can move it slightly.

I really need it to recover as quickly as possible. I'm icing and elevating. It's still very bruised and swollen. Does anyone have any tips on what else I can do and how long I should expect it to be bruised and swollen?

It's pretty painful to walk and move. I'm going to see a doctor if it's no better tomorrow, but it's not easy to get an appointment where I am and I'm worried the hassle of getting there will do more damage.

Any advice gratefully received, or any experiences to share would help!

Thanks

Minor injuries instead? Gp can't do much. You do need to walk on it and flex it gently to keep mobility, draw letters in the air and do heel raises. Ibruprofen and arnica gel are my go-tos.

Yeah I wondered that but there's not really one that close to me. Should I be trying to walk on it or just move it around?

Both, if you do not walk properly on it you can trigger other problems. Make sure you wear supportive footwear though.
