Need advice hen trip - possible illness

Uggwugg · 06/05/2019 16:44

Next week a group of us are going to Ibiza on a hen holiday for 3 days

Last week I ended up in a&e with really agonising pains in my abdomen which I thought was appendicitis. ( I was given morphine it was so painful)

The Dr couldn't find anything wrong, took 3 blood tests , urine test and x-ray and discharged me saying if it happened again to come straight back.
He said it could be a grumbling appendix or something else (I'm post menopause)

I'm now feeling apprehensive about my trip and it happening again in a foreign country and being with a load of girls and possibly ruining their trip

Please what would you do

Firstly it may have been nothing and not my appendix at all
If it was my appendix it could grumble on for years
Should i tell my friends in advance (I'm not looking for sympathy) and put them in the picture
Should I just go and say nothing
I so don't want to ruin it for anyone (who might feel like they need to look after me)

Am I being over cautious

Help

Oh I really feel for you, something like this would worry me no end too. I would tell your friends what's happened (not in a "it might happen when we're away" kind of way) just so they know it's happened to you. I would also just do some research on the area you're going to and make sure you know the number for a local doctor or where the nearest hospital is/how to call an ambulance - maybe write it all down. Also make sure you have good travel insurance and just try to relax and not think about it too much since you'll have taken all the precautions you can.

I would tell your friends, Id rather someone know and keep an eye on me. Make sure you have your insurance and EHIC sorted too.

I'd tell the person you are closest to, just incase anything did happen. Make sure all your insurance covers it too. Good luck!

Make sure you declare it to the insurance company

Agree with PP to double check your travel insurance - this may now count as a pre-existing condition.

If you don’t want to announce to all and sundry could you confide in 1-2 people to reassure yourself but not feel like you’ll be overshadowing things?

Thanks. I'm going to try and get a private ultrasound.
The insurance will be fine, grumbling appendix is a symptom that's covered.
And yes I'll tell my best 2 friends out of the group. They can tell the others if they want.

Just hope it doesn't flare up whilst it there!
