Hi all, I went to the doctors today as I had a mole which has got a bit raised and keeps bleeding, doctor said it could be cancerous, so said I would need to see specialist at hospital, for which there is a 3 months wait!! He also said as it's on my head/hairline I would need to see a Plastic surgeon to get it removed, just wondered if anyone else has been through this! The thought of a 3 month wait isn't good!

3 months is too long if cancer is suspected. You need to push for an urgent referral. Can you go back and see another GP ( you may have one that specialises in dermatology at your surgery). Is there any possibility that you could go private? Have you looked at the possibility that it could be a seborrheic keratosis? They are common in hair and can bleed if they catch. Hope you can get an appointment soon.

@Somethingsosimple he kept contradicting himself by saying it looked fine, then said it may be cancerous or a BCC mole which is a benign tumour! He said the 3 months is a urgent referral!

BCC isn't benign but can be treated with a cream.

I’ve re early looked into greying a mole checked with a dermatologist privately - it’s £130 for them to check up to 3 moles, if treatment/removal is needed they can do that for about £300 or refer back into the nhs. I’m not saying your mole looks suspicious or can’t wait 3 weeks (I’m in no way an expert) but if you didn’t want to wait 3 weeks that might be an option for you.

Somethingsosimple · 25/04/2019 21:27

Bcc is a form of skin cancer so not benign. It doesn’t really look like that either usually, please go back a ask for urgent referral or see another GP for a second opinion, I understood that urgent referral need to be seen under the 2 week rule.

If a doctor told me I had a mole that might be cancerous and that I would have to wait 3 months for it to be looked at, I would beg, borrow or steal the money for a private consultation.

Thanks for all the replies, it wasn't a Doctor I had seen before, and he didn't seem very confident and kept contradicting himself, I will re ring doctors tomorrow and see if I can see another GP, if not I will go private.
