Bewildering Luteal Phase Spotting

Hi ladies!

Right, so I'm TTC, 6 DPO and about 4 or 5 days away from next AF. I've had some mixed symptoms since ovulation; lower back pain and fatigue being the worst. Then, 4 days ago, I had some pinkish discharge, which died out, until the next when it went pink again. Cut to today and, while I've released minimal discharge, it has been normal. Then this afternoon, I released one stringy blood clot, no more. Ive never had this happen mid cycle before, so might someone please enlighten me as to what's going on X-D

I was under the impression that it was either ovulation or implantation spotting but my other symptoms have died down (including a noticable absence of boob tenderness, suggesting a deficiency of progesterone). I'm holding off taking a test for at least another 3 days; I expect testing this early would be a mistake. In the meantime, I could really do with a better understanding of what this might mean (assurance from any advice may just stop me overthinking things!) I imagine the doc would only fob me off over something like this, so I will consult them if things should take a turn for the worse.

Appreciate the advice in advance!

C x

Hey ladies,

Bump!

Pretty please, advice please! I'm still spotting, a week after I started. Due on in 2 days(ish) and a lack of symptoms has me worried; I can't be sure short lived headaches and slight, dull back ache counts! I just want to know if it is possible to ONLY experience spotting as a sign of early pregnancy, would it be a waste testing now and when might I call the doc, whether I get a BFP or not?

Thanks x

It’s possible to experience no symptoms at all, so not having other symptoms doesn’t rule you out :) I’ve ususlly gotten a positive from 10dpo with early response tests (found Asda the best) how many dpo are you?

Thinkofme46 · 26/04/2019 08:18

Hey, thank you so much for your reply! According to my app, I'm 10 DPO today.

Is this your first potential pregnancy?
Symptoms wax and wane. I knew I was pregnant soon after conception! I just didn't feel right. And I had an implantation bleed which was just spotting.
Why don't you just test?

loveyoutothemoon · 26/04/2019 16:14

Do you normally get ovulation spotting?

jinglebellmel · 26/04/2019 17:38

With my first and second pregnancies I had no symptoms at all before a positive test it really doesn’t mean anything. I’d do a test, if you can wait until tomorrow and get an early response you may get an answer (although obviously the sensible thing would be to wait a bit longer if you can!) if it turns out you’re not pregnant then it maybe worth a mention to your gp so they can check hormone levels are okay, but fingers crossed for you that you get a positive test 😊

Thinkofme46 · 26/04/2019 18:30

Thanks for your reply guys! This would be my second pregnancy, but I miscarried the last time (about 3 months ago), so I guess that's why I'm so apprehensive now.
Im tempted to test, I've just been holding out to see if my AF makes an appearance over the next couple of days or not (yep, it's been a long week lol!)

I've never spotted during ovulation before; Ive had this extremely painful cramp for an hour or so during ovulation, which never happened this month oddly.

Should I run it past my gp either way then do you think, or just let it be and keep a tabs on it? I expect the doc will only tell me to do just that lol!

Ah sorry to hear about the miscarriage. I had a couple and some spotting around ovulation for a couple of months after one - think hormones were just a bit out still. So if it was very recent that could be an option? Can’t hurt to run it past the gp either way, although if you are pregnant I imagine they’ll put it down to that and not actually do/check anything. If not pregnant they may do a blood test to check hormone levels. Hoping you get he result you want, it’s tough ttc after a miscarriage Flowers

Thinkofme46 · 26/04/2019 19:41

Thanks, does seem pretty tough ay! I was on the implant for 11 looong years, and my gp told me that I shouldn't experience anything out of the ordinary, that I'd be free of the hormones and able to conceive in about a month. Five turbulous months later, enduring some very frustrating hormonal symptoms, I got a BFP. But yeah, even the midwife was surprised it took as quickly as it did then, so when we did miscarry, we weren't surprised. It's all just hormonal imbalance blues really, I think. Thanks again anyways :)

How are you doing?

Thinkofme46 · 27/04/2019 16:09

I'm ok thanks. Supposed to come on today but there's no change yet. I've bought a couple of tests, gonna take one tomorrow morning if it stays that way :)

Are you normally pretty regular? Fingers crossed. X

jinglebellmel · 28/04/2019 08:18

Fingers crossed for you!

Thinkofme46 · 28/04/2019 12:55

Test came back negative. As I said, hormonal blues! I reckon I've been low on progesterone. I'm going to leave it a few days, see if it gets sorted out naturally. If not, I'm gonna speak to my gp!

OP posts:
jinglebellmel · 29/04/2019 18:33

Sorry to hear that. It does sound as though your hormones might still be settling then - if ho to the gp though so that can rule anything else out and they may also check your hormones for you (although I think wonky hormones for a while after a miscarriage is pretty normal so they may tell you to wait a few more months)

Thinkofme46 · 29/04/2019 18:57

Yeah, I expect they'll tell me to wait. It's just frustrating since they said wait till after your next AF; an indication that things are returning to normal levels. That's been and gone and I'm back to having an imbalance again! Very odd... Does that then mean that ovulation and next AF could happen at any random time from now? I'm 4 days late as it is.

OP posts:
jinglebellmel · 30/04/2019 13:00

I got my period bang on 28 days after my medical miscarriage, so I was pretty confident that hormones were sorted and i thought that AF would kind of 'clear' anything and get me back on track. But I had the random ovulation spotting for a few months after. It really pissed me off as I just wanted to be back to normal!

So are you pretty confident that you ovulated (and that it was when you think it was)? If it was later than normal then you might not actually be late yet. Have you double checked with another pregnancy test?

Thinkofme46 · 30/04/2019 14:43

Wow you sound like you went through exactly the same thing! Isn't not knowing just the worst feeling!

I actually couldn't say for sure that I did this month... I didn't have that nasty lower abdomn pain I normally get during ovulation. Just going by my app and the other odd, on-off symptoms seemed to suggest estrogen peak, which I hear normally suggests ovulation. I genuinely think I wasnt releasing enough progesterone after that. Just wish i knew why. I wonder if I might go and see a obgyn in a few days, ask for a blood test so they can properly determine a) if I am pregnant or not and b) which hormone's being the nuisance and what to do about it :)
