Ct scan on brain?

Hello,

I have had headaches, nausea, blurry vision for the past week straight. Doctor looked into back of my eyes said it was normal and she's not worried but said she'd send me for CT scan of my brain. I got a cancellation and had CT scan today and they told me it was normal which obviously is a relief.

I don't know if this is anxiety or not but I have looked into brain CT scans and they are not the preferred method of diagnosis and MRI is a lot more sensitive whereas CT can miss things. I am still having bad symptoms and some weird neurological signs and I have convinced myself that the CT scan has not picked up a tumour if it was present?

Am I being irrational and anxious? Has anyone had a CT on their brain?

Hi although what you have said is true an mri scan can pick up things better and look deeper into things a ct is still pretty accurate.

I had a small bleed on my brain last year and that was found on a ct scan but they did an mri the next day to look at it in more detail.

If you're still worried push for an mri. What are your neurological symptoms?

To be fair, CT scans are the usual, and preferred method of diagnosis for your symptoms.

They're pretty sensitive!

Unless you have other medical issues or past history, I would think you can rule out a tumour causing your symptoms.

You can push for an MRI, you may get one, but you could be waiting quite a while. Usually, MRIs on brains happen after something has been diagnosed on CT.

I had both scans, the CT did not show any tumours so I was reassured on this but picked up some other abnormality so a MRI was ordered. Luckily the neurologist's opinion on this was :' Of no clinical importance'. So be reassured that if something had shown a MRI would have followed.
