Do piles come and go?

A few years ago I had a few episodes of blood in poo.went to to doctor who had a look and diagnosed piles. Nice. Did blood teats and poo samples high were clear. Over the past few years, I have had occasional episode of blood in poo. Can they flare up once you have it?

Oh yes. Still best to get it checked out though.

Thanks. I don't want to go to the doctor each time just fir them to confirm it's still piles as I have no other symptoms but you're right.

All depends on what type they are. If you've got Nuremberg's they reappear from time to time , Chalfonts disappear for good.

Piles can just come and go, I had them on and off for years and had them confirmed by the doctors a couple of times, but a lot of times didn't bother.

Just a word of warning though, if the amount of blood noticeably increases or you get any other symptoms please get checked. I left it for ages recently thinking it was just piles again and ended up in hospital for a week with a diagnosis of Ulcerative Colitis whilst waiting for test results from my GP. If I'd gone to get checked sooner I could have been treated before it got anywhere near as bad.

Had no idea there were different types rue. When I went to the doctor two years ago she suggested banding which sounds terrifying and as they aren't painful I decided to live with them but the uncertainty of them coming and going and thinking it's something more sinister might make me consider it....

Oh no Alana that sounds scary. It's never much blood, and it's (tmi alert) around the stool not in it as far as I can tell but I might go to the doctor again to set my mind at ease. Once every two years just to confirm its still just piles seems reasonable.

I don't want to scare you and as you have no other symptoms you're probably fine.

Seeing your GP again for confirmation and asking them for any warning signs you should come back sooner sounds sensible.

Alanna - sorry to derail guys - but I really suspect DH has this. Will he go to the doctor, oh no! Is there much you can do say to day to lessen the symptoms? I notice that some food/alcohol and definitely stress makes it much worse.

@LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD , unfortunately Ulcerative Colitis is and autoimmune disease where the body starts attacking itself, so there is very little that you can do to lessen symptoms without proper treatment.

Some people might find certain foods disagree with them and cutting them out can help, but it won't cure it. Wish I could be of more help, but as you are obviously aware, seeing a doctor really is the way forward.

I have been telling him for bloody years! He’s always had a dodgy stomach - I guess it could be diverticulitis by I’m not a bloody doctor. Very frustrating as I know it’s really painful.
