Acid reflux/digestion issues!

Bethy1995 · 02/04/2019 11:41

Hi everyone, for nearly a week now I've been getting digestion issues. Started feeling like there was food stuck in my throat with the constant need to belch. No remedies helped, to the point where last Thursday I had bad pain in my chest area the only thing that relieved it was going to sleep.

I've still got this feeling now however I feel burning in my throat almost like heartburn which I had when I was pregnant with my son it is awful!

Not sure whether to go to the doctors or not

1-because I don't want to waste their time when there's more people in need than me

2- I feel although it's painful I'm not dying or seriously ill

Might be worth a trip as you be tried remedies.

Could be a bug and temporarily changing diet (eg lactose) might help but could be something like a goitre though I'm not sure about the reflux there. So worth a check I think to exclude bad things and think about what else to try.

Hi OP

I personally wouldn't go the the drs for indigestion symptoms that have been bothering you for less than a week. It's quite possible that you've picked up a mild stomach bug or eaten something dodgy.

Unless pain gets severe, you develop other worrying symptoms or it goes on for longer I would try some different over the counter remedies and stick to a sensible diet.

Only you know how bad you feel though :)

Go to the pharmacist, get some ranitidine and some Gaviscon. If that does not help then you will need to see a GP.

What remedies have you tried??

gamerchick · 02/04/2019 14:00

You need to go because if you ignore it it WILL get worse. If you're at the chest pain stage then sooner rather than later. Make an appointment.

Order an acid reflux pillow for now though so you don't sleep flat.

Hi everyone,

I've tried rennies and gaviscon. Gaviscon made it worse to the chest pain stage and Rennie didn't make a difference. I just really don't want to waste the doctors time and feel silly going with something so simple. I'm being careful what I eat trying to eat little and often as a full dinner makes it worse.

Ok, well I thought like you, one endoscopy later and still ignoring it I'm on long term meds and can't sleep lying down anymore.

If you really don't want to go to the doctor's, follow the acid reflux diet to the letter. But I would really go, it might seem a simple problem now but it'll make you miserable.

Your choice Grin

Try nexium or zantac over the counter for a week and see if that helps.

Bethy1995 · 02/04/2019 16:09

@gamerchick so sorry to hear that what's your diagnosis if you don't mind me asking? I think I'll try more otc meds first and see if it helps, if not I'll make an appointment

Acid reflux that caused a few problems with the gullet.

oesophagitis was one of them, can't remember the other one. Nasty business.

Just don't ignore it, find out your triggers and avoid them. There's a list somewhere to avoid with acid reflux but you really should visit your gp.
