Morton's Neuroma

I have been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis three months ago which is easing with physio therapy and good shoes, now though I have severe pain under fourth toe of left foot when I walk it's like stepping on Lego in that part of the foot and is tender when I touch it. Does it sound like MN? Has anyone had this? Any tips? I'm in agony every time I step on that foot it's awful! Will it settle?

Hi op. I’ve had a MN and agree it’s awful. Your symptoms do sound like this is the case. I had to have a steroid injection and the pain stopped within 24hrs.

You're describing the symptoms of something I get from time to time but have never done anything about. It's just come on again today and OMG it hurts. I'll be going to the GP with this now.

Really? Can someone tell me if it will settle, I'm thinking omg do I have to live with this pain every time I step? It's horrendous agony. There's no tingling or pins and needles so I didn't know if it was a neuroma.

I didn’t get pins and needles either with mine. I went to the GP after it ruined a weekend away- couldn’t walk for more than 10 minutes as it was so painful. The steroid injection (once they’d done an ultrasound on my foot) wasn’t pleasant, but no more pain has made it worth while.

When was your steroid injection? Are you still pain free? Did you go to gp initially!can gp diagnose it? Xx

I had a MN which I suffered with for years, it caused a lump behind my fourth toe too. It does sound like a MN, I had mine operated on but a tiny bit grew back so I had to have another operation which after it all settled sorted it out. I now have similar pain on my left foot, but they have rereferred me to a Podiatrist as they now try and ease the symptoms with physio/ortho inserts which has helped ease the pain when using them but otherwise I have been told its now a last resort to operate so will have to live with it. Your GP can refer you,they may do an ultrasound (mine didn't even show up on an MRI), so they may well just treat it as such rather than use any invasive tests. Lace up shoes and ortho inserts ill help and something you can obtain yourself as a self help measure. Good Luck!

Sorry op. Just seen your question. Mine showed up on an ultrasound. I firstly went to my GP and was then referred to an NHS clinic which treated orthopaedic and podiatry . The injection worked within 48hrs. It lasted 8 months, then started to come back, so I had another one which is still working a year later. My foot in that area is largely numb and looks a bit discoloured but I don’t care as long as I don’t have the pain anymore.
