I have a semi-bald patch on my head. Obv i panicked. I'm late 30s, baby is 8 months but never had this before. I have lost a couple of stone but carefully and put the overall hair thinning down to this, but the patch feels like something else. I'm going for bloods but what can i do or take now to help?? I'm really upset about it.

Hope it's ok.

I've got thinning hair but think it must be my age.

Could it be postpartum hair loss? If you breastfed your baby for a while, it can delay the hair loss triggered by having the baby. I smugly thought I was going to keep my beautiful newly thick hair after I had my DC because it didn’t fall out and was still there when he was 6 months old. Then I stopped breastfeeding and within a month or two it had started to thin all over and fall out in handfuls in some areas. It stopped eventually.

The thinning and handfuls i get but the patch i do not. Anyone know what i can do to even help right now before tests are back etc?

Have you had blood tests to check in case you are Hypothyroid?

In 2017 I suddenly developed 2 bald patches on my head. I rushed off to the hairdressers, as you do Smile who said I needed to see my GP. She diagnosed Alopecia Areata (an auto immune disease) and just told me it would probably grow back within a year and printed me out a leaflet about it.

I had a blood test and was also diagnosed with a low thyroid and vitamin D deficiency.

My hairdresser recommended Serioxyl which I put on the bald spots twice per day and I also started taking Perfectil vitamins for hair. It did grow back although my hairdresser checked recently and it looks like I have another smaller bald patch. Thankfully they have always been in areas where my top hair covered them.

I don't believe I have Alopecia Areata but I think this was diagnosed initially because the GP looked at my symptoms individually rather than looking at me holistically. I'm positive it is part of the thyroid problem.
