Implanon implant - anyone got one? Alternative suggestions...

Sorry, know it's a bit personal, but....

I've had the Implanon implant fitted (had it for about a year and half) and I'm still having nightmares with my periods... bleeding is lasting for between 4 - 6 weeks, and then starts again a week or so later.

Anyone else having problems? I think I'm gonna have it removed (given it enough time to 'settle' I think!), but not sure what alternative to go for - the doctor won't give me the pill, and I'm worried about the coil.

the depo injection? im on that and it stopped my periods straight away......not had a period for 12 weeks now!!

It's a tiny plastic strip they insert into your arm... I was hoping too that my periods would stop, but it's had the opposite effect?

What's the depo injection? Haven't heard of that...

depo provera (SP?) is basically the same as the mini pill only in an injection. (in your bottom!!) and lasts for 12 weeks. some people get spotting but my periods have completley stopped

Sounds good (I'm just not reliable enough to remember to take the mini-pill), but not sure if I'm brave enough to have a jab in the bum every 12 weeks! Are there any side-effects?

can lower your libido in a few cases. can cause some spotting. can make you put a bit of weight on as well. Its not the worst injection to have.....honest!!! im not brave either but it was fine.

TeriS · 09/09/2004 17:42

Thanks, certainly worth talking to the doctor about... not sure about the lowered libido and weight gain though!

Although if it's only for 12 weeks, if there are problems I can always stop using it.

thats what i said....thought it was worth giving it a go anyway!

I think that's the main problem with the implant I have - it lasts 3 years, and you can't take it out yourself!

There can be side effects with the depo injection, but I think you'll only know if you try ( although if you bleed with the implant you might have the same with the injection)

I had nausea, dizzy spells, headaches and constant spotting when I had the injection, so it wasn't for me. There was a thread earlier in the year - I'll try and find it

TeriS · 09/09/2004 18:03

Thanks LL. I must admit, because of the problems with this implant, I'm a bit nervous of injections/ etc.

What are you using now? (god that's really personal!)

Usually 'Bugger off I need my sleep'

But if that doesn't work then condoms, but of course our brilliant use of them was how I conceived DS2.......

I need to find something else, but I'm a bit constrained by still BFing DD!
