Bizzare thing with skin on my hands...

The top layer of skin (the see-through one) is peeling off for no apparent reason.

I've had this a couple of times before as a child but no one knew what it was (drs and pharmacists were baffled) and as it isn't painful and doesn't cause any problems they left it and it cleared up a couple of months later.

I get what look like burst blisters and the skin just rubs off or comes off by itself.

AS its not painful and it never seems to cause any major problems (apart from looking a bit odd) I can't be bothered to go to gps (feel it would be a waste of their time).

I have very sensitive skin but when I have a reaction to something it gets red, sore and cracks so don't think it can be that.

Just wondering if anyone else has heard of it or am I just a freak?

Allergy

I used to get it when I played in cut grass or playsand

I also get it on my feet when I wear wellies or trainers

TheArmadillo · 10/07/2007 19:41

interesting.

So I'm not a freak then

or we both are?

Spagblog · 10/07/2007 19:43

Do you get swellings too?
I get hard sore lumps that some times turn into blood blisters, then the skin flakes off.

No one has been able to identify my condition.

No

Sometimes my peeling skin get red and shiney and hard underneath then it blisters and the edges crack and they ooze

But not very often

TheArmadillo · 10/07/2007 19:47

I just get the peeling skin. No pain or anything. OCcasional redness and a little bit sore, but nothing much.

i suffer with a similar thing and my gp diagnosed dermatitis, when i have a flare up i get blisters all over my hands and my fingers swell my doctor gives me hayleve to stop the itching and reduce the water retention in my fingers...........any idea on what is causing the flare ups......i used to work at a hairdressers so that triggered it but now i have to peel potatoes with latex free gloves its a mare sometimes

WigWamBam · 10/07/2007 19:56

Could be an allergy - it happens to my dad when he eats oranges.

TheArmadillo · 10/07/2007 20:02

crap I have a feeling I know what it might be if it could be an allergy.

I got a new ring on mon as have lost my engagement ring. Was cheap but is sterling silver (hallmarked). Am not usually allergic to silver and is new so nickel content has to be below 0.01% (if I remember correctly). Also with nickel I tend to get itchy spots.

It is that hand it has started on though.

Bugger.

the ring should only affect the area its on not the hands really. y not google or ring the nhs hotline

Katymac · 10/07/2007 20:05

I am often allergic to silver

Sometimes when it is sterling silver & sometimes when it isn't

TheArmadillo · 10/07/2007 20:06

that's a good point.

Its all over that hand.

Will google.

My allergies always spread

TheArmadillo · 10/07/2007 20:17

I only noticed it today and it was all over my hand when I noticed.

Serves me right for losing my ring in the first place I suppose.

How is your hand?

TheArmadillo · 12/07/2007 11:52

same thanks for asking. No better but no worse either.

Am still wearing the ring.

I first got this about 4 years ago. Get clsters of little blisters which then burst & the skin flakes off. I think it's related to stress in my case. I like the bodyshop hemp handcream but other than that don't bother using anything and it always goes eventually.

Hope yours clears up soon.

Paint the inside of the ring with clear nailpolish to protect your finger from the metal

Tatat · 12/07/2007 12:13

Dh and I get this but only on our hands and its always loads worse in the summer, in fact rarely happens in the winter.

I didn't have it before I met dh so I often accuse him of giving me the lurgy!

Is sometimes a bit sore cos it gets dry and cracked but that's it.
