DH has rash - chicken pox or something else?

Morning all

Hoping to get some advice. My husband has a rash mainly on his trunk (photo attached) and a couple of similar spots on his head. Yesterday there were a few spots but dramatically increased overnight and 2-3 are blistered which made me think it could be chicken pox. Any thoughts based on photo?

He felt a bit run down last night but is feeling better this morning. The spots aren't itchy as yet. We've come back a week ago from holiday in Thailand but this has only just appeared.

At the moment he's due at work today but will have to rearrange if it is CP or anything else that means he needs to see someone.

Thanks

It does look like chicken pox, has he. It had it before? It can be quite serious in adults so he should see the Gp.

TheoriginalLEM · 22/03/2019 06:52

Shingles? Although it looks too widespread.

MrsRyanGosling15 · 22/03/2019 06:52

Really not sure an internet forum is the best place to get any sort of medical advice. People could tell you anything. Why not ring 111 or out of hours depending where you are instead?

DonPablo · 22/03/2019 06:52

Gosh, that looks sore. Has he had chicken pox before?

endofthelinefinally · 22/03/2019 06:53

If he goes to gp, and I think he should, he MUST warn them. He needs to wait outside or in a separate room to protect other people.

SMaCM · 22/03/2019 06:55

It looks like chicken pox, but I'd definitely mention he's been abroad in case is something unusual.

FizzPopping · 22/03/2019 06:57

Strange thing is it's not sore (as yet anyway).

He doesn't think he's had it, just waiting until his mum might be awake to check with her.

@MrsRyanGosling15 yes planning to call but thought a visual would be useful to get thoughts on. I've never seen a CP rash so thought could be giving him rubbish info!

Thanks for the replies

I would put money on that being chicken pox. Despite everyone saying you can only get it once you can actually get it again, particularly if you are very run down or have a low immune system (I have thyroid and Addison’s disease and I’ve had it 3 times!)

Nogodsnomasters · 22/03/2019 07:03

Looks like chicken pox to me yes, identical to when my son had it and the speed of it spreading is also characteristic of CP. Definitely call gp as they may give antiviral meds because of his age.

minmooch · 22/03/2019 07:08

Please make sure gap receptionist is aware that it could be cp so your dh does not wait in reception area with potentially vulnerable people. He must get this looked at before going to work.

FizzPopping · 22/03/2019 07:12

Thanks all. Waiting on a call back from NHS 24 and he isn't going to work. Will call GP when they open and let them know it is possible chicken pox.

Am I right that he would have been contagious the last few days if it is CP? And how long does that last?

While you are waiting, read this.

namechange1796 · 22/03/2019 08:00

Definitely chicken pox.

SavageBeauty73 · 22/03/2019 08:02

Looks like chicken pox. My daughter had it more than once.

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 22/03/2019 08:10

It's chicken pox

FizzPopping · 22/03/2019 09:01

Thanks all. He's waiting for a telephone app with GP in order to hopefully be seen this afternoon.

It looks like CP , if he hasnt had it before he will probably get very very ill
My son in law looked at deaths door when he had it

minmooch · 22/03/2019 13:18

Has he been seen by the go? How is he doing?

FizzPopping · 22/03/2019 14:45

He's got an appointment later this afternoon after his telephone appointment. He's still feeling ok so far. Was quite surprised the GP didn't even mention him not going into the waiting room at the surgery but he's going to say to the receptionist when he arrives.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 23/03/2019 08:28

How is he? What did the GP say?

FizzPopping · 23/03/2019 09:26

Just took one look and said yep its CP! Hasn't given him anything and said to stay off/work from home this week which he can do. He has a lot more spots on his face this morning but still feels ok. I'm hoping it stays that way as sounds like some adults with it get a really horrible time.

OP posts:
Itssosunny · 23/03/2019 09:35

It's possible to have chicken pox second time. They look like chicken pox but GP will know best.

Itssosunny · 23/03/2019 09:37

Oh, so it's CP! Didn't read your last post, OP. My DH had CP for the first time when he was in his 30-s. It was horrendous.

BobbilyBoo · 23/03/2019 09:44

My husband had CP when the kids got it and he was in his 40's.

Fine at first but it was awful after few days, he ended up in hospital and they gave him some tablets which acted really quickly and made a huge difference. Apparently GP's aren't allowed to prescribe them because of the cost.

Fingers crossed he's ok!

FizzPopping · 23/03/2019 10:58

In his telphone app the GP mentioned a cream but when he went in they said they wouldn't prescribe anything. He's just to get back in touch if he gets any new symptoms. Just fingers crossed now!
