Ultrasound and CT scan gave completely different results

Has anyone else had this happen to them? I got bad news from the ultrasound which showed a mass and consultant requested immediate CT scan which was clear! I'm obviously happy but also concerned about differing results.

Very common. I wouldn’t worry.

Yes.

I had a mass on ultrasound.
Then had an mri and initial report also saw something. But a second radiologist looked at the same mri images and says there's nothing to see.
I'm now awaiting a CT scan.

Can you ask for an mri? I'm not sure what the difference in a CT and an mri is but I thought mri was a better/more detailed scan for soft tissue?

Though CT would also be more accurate than an untrasound I think. Guess if the doctor is happy that there's nothing on the CT then you have to trust them?

A mass was seen on ultrasound last Friday. Was referred to oncologist immediately this week, he told me he was very worried based on ultrasound and then CT was clear. I've been through the mill this week!!

Yes the MRI usually follows a CT as it happened to me, and yes the MRI (especially with contrast) is more detailed. But it depends what they are scanning, for instance for kidney stones CT is better or so my DH was told when he asked whether a MRI would be more accurate.

CT is waaaaay more accurate than an ultrasound, there’s no comparison. If the CT came up clear then it would’ve been a sonographers error with the ultrasound. I had a similar thing happen last year, ultrasound picked up a mass in my kidney then I had a CT scan and it came back totally normal. Same thing also happened to my neighbours dil at the same time, it’s really common with ultrasounds but the Mri/CT rarely get it wrong.
