Are they just regular ear infections or something else?

Hi everyone,

My son is 21 months old and until he turned a year and 4 months he didn’t have any ear infections despite having had the regular colds that a baby would get. Since he turned 1 and 4 months he has had an ear infection on average once a month. Almost all have been following cold (it’s been winter). I had him tested for cat/dust/nut/and a couple of other allergies with a skin prick test, they all came out negative. we have a cat and I try hard to keep dust away but can’t always stay on top of it. I wonder if even if he doesn’t have allergies if such airborne particles could still aggregate him? I don’t know what else it can be- any ideas? The doctors keep saying some kids just get them and some kids just have narrow tubes etc but like I said he didn’t have any ear infections for the first year and a half almost so I don’t know how only now his ear tubes are too narrow etc. Any ideas would be very appreciated, as you can probably tell I’m so tired and anxious about the situation as he is constantly in agony and on painkillers/antibiotics.

This seems to be a common occurrence after vaccinations. Was your child vaccinated at 1 year 4 months?

Grommets dealt with it for my ds.

Hi triangled,

Sorry for the late response. How do vaccines cause ear infections and is there anything I can give him to help? Thanks

Ds had roughly 2 ear infects a month from 10 weeks old until 20 months when he had grommets in. (and then they started again when the grommets came out)
He has glue ear. He's just growing out of it at 12yo.

I suspect, unless his hearing is affected, he may not be severe enough for referral to ENT, but you could ask. I think it's 8 ear infections in 6 months here. How's his speech?
