I've had this on and off for a few months. Last night I was awake hours. Google has terrified me!!
Should I go for a blood test? Would I need to fast for the blood test or have it done first thing in the morning? Or should I try switching my detergent first before freaking out.
Im 40 and generally in good condition.

You need to give us more info. Have you got a rash? Is your skin dry? What's your diet like?

My skin can be dry. I eat sensible meals but do have sweet treats and have been eating far too many sweets and chocolates recently. I'm worried I've given myself diabetes!!! Freaking out.

I have terrible varicose veins on my calves too and it's my calves which are the most itchy but thighs and tummy were bad last night. Legs still itch today

Make a GP appointment.

Meanwhile, if you're unwell your body needs nourishing so have lots of healthy food.

Fruit, dates and yoghurt are great substitutes for sweets and much healthier.

Sounds like pruritus, I have this and its often at night, often in those places and goes with varicose veins. My GP used to bang on about moisturiser but its not dry skin related (although that doesn't help) its nerves triggering the itching. You can google it, I tend to use Sudacreme and that helps a lot.

I've been working downstairs, just come up to bed and it's started again. Swapped my pjs as I know this pair I am wearing was washed before I swapped detergent and it is still a raging itch all around my lower legs. I've applied cream but it's itching like mad

I get the same, the doctor said it was hormonal. I'm on HRT but try to only use it when I'm having hot flushes, I take Evening Primrose & Star Flower Oil. I've just started using Aveeno Cream which does calm it down, I get it on my lower stomach, my C section scar, inner thighs, I've scratched until I started bleeding before.
