My 16 year old has autism and epilepsy. He has never been able to have an EEG because of his sensory issues and anxiety, so has been diagnosed through our observations of his seizures and videos. His seizures are described as complex partial focals with secondary generalisation. He’s been trying different doses of various meds for the last two years, none of which have managed to get the seizures down to less than 1 per month.
His partial focals are obvious - he stares up to the left, his head jerks violently to the left and he gasps. But I am wondering if another behaviour of his may be a different type of seizure? This is where he very suddenly changes his facial expression to looking pained and tired, puts his arm over his eyes and freezes on the spot. He is fully aware though ( enough to tell us to go away if we ask him if he’s ok). He often goes up to bed and cries, but can sometimes lash out at anyone around him. Usually I give him Neurofen and he’s back to normal within 45 mins or so. It’s so difficult as he has very little speech so can’t tell us what’s wrong.
Does this sound as if it could be a type of seizure?
