Do I have shingles?!?

My 2-year-old just had very bad chickenpox.

On Sunday, I got a bit of achey nerve pain in my neck. And then, last night, woke up with stabbing pains in my arm. Today, my arm feels heavy and tingly and the right hand side of my face is numb Shock

Apart from very tired, I feel normal. Not feverish or ill, just very very tired (more than normal).

I can get a GP appointment in the morning, but wondering if I should pay the £49 for a same-day private GP appointment as I’ve read that you need to get seen fast for shingles to get the antivirals.

No rash though... so maybe it’s not? Only think it could be because my little boy just had incredibly bad chickenpox ...

My numb face and arm pain is freaking me out Sad

Doesnt sound like shingles but does sound like you need to see a doctor today

You don't get shingles from contact with chicken pox. You can get chicken pox from shingles though

I think if there's no rash or redness then it's probably not shingles. Still possible though. Definitely get to your GP.

Hi OP

It isn't possible to catch shingles. Shingles is a reactivation of the chicken pox virus - anyone who has previously had chicken pox can then get shingles at any time.

It is however possible for someone who has never had chicken pox to catch it from someone with shingles.

It's possible that you could be getting shingles (your symptoms sound similar), but it would be a coincidence, not caught from your DS. Shingles isn't a massive emergency - an appointment tomorrow with your usual GP is absolutely fine. It is usually a few days from the feelings your describe to when the rash appears.

Hope this helps :)

Ok I didn’t know you can’t get shingles from chickenpox! The only reason I suspected shingles was because of my little one’s chickenpox. I will try and get to a Gp today!
