dd was at A&E early this morning and they have prescribed her some antibiotics for tonsilitis.
she has stuck her fingers down her throat both times and thrown it back up, thats after me and dh tried to get it into her.
i have tasted it, its not that bad but just has a bit of an after taste.
this is the 2nd lot of anti bioics she,s on, she desperately needs them cos her tonsilitis has come back.
any suggestions anyone?

Give her a chocolate button to suck straight afterwards.

i've just always had to hold my dd down and syringe it down.it is horrible to do and some will come back out but i find it's the only way.i'm on my own with her so it's harder with one!!

dd is a nightmare as well (aged 2) lol she happily sits with medicine meant for ds and pretends to have it and laighs BUT try and give it to her when she is ill and its HARD WORK.!

We have tried all sorts..inc head locks.! Last time we managed to get some into her by mixing it with a little juice and by making out we gave her a nearly empty cup by accident, then hoping she drinks the last bits and asks for more....

OR

We tried syringing a measure on one/2 mini weetabix's (or other mini cereal) which will soak up the medicine iykwim....
Just make sure if you mix it with food/drink that you only apply it to a small portion and that you ensure they have that 1st..sympathies totally with you..x

We have tried the yoghurt approach - stick it into a couple of spoons of strongish flavour yoghurt/ fromage frais - well it works for dd!! Good luck!

Piffle · 07/07/2007 22:57

we always use the sweeties approach too, take the meds and then have drink/ sweetie straight after - whatever will tempt her
My ds1 ended up in A+E on a drip due to not taking AB's for tonsilitis he threw up everything though.
Hope she gets well soon Jenk, dd had it bad last year and it was so horrible.

Poor dd and poor you.

We squirted abs into dd2 with a syringe, into her cheek so they trickled down. Her throat was so bad she wouldn't eat even choc buttons! You could try giving an ice lolly or pop afterwards as they are soothing.

If you use yoghurt you need to make sure which abs your dd has as some are less well absorbed if taken at the same time as dairy products.

we have had to make calpol ice lollies/icecubes it didn't work thou.

onlyjoking9329 · 07/07/2007 23:17

wouldn't it be great if you could get plasters with the medicine in them
