Breast screening - recall

Hi all,

I hope you are all well,

My mum is 50 years old and was recent called for her first screening, we got results for a recall for Thursday.

I’m very scared and concern, how long does these test normally last? And is there anything I can do between now and then do find out more?

Many thanks

B

Easy to say but please do not worry. It is quite common to be recalled especially for the first mammogram.

The visit on Thursday will usually do more mammograms maybe an ultrasound and possibly a biopsy but this may not be necessary.

You will get some indication on Thursday and probably an all clear. If biopsy is taken you may need to wait for those results.

It is common on first mammogram due to dense breast tissue, or maybe the first mammogram pinched the skin etc

Most recalls will be given the all clear.

As PP said, recall on first mammogram is relatively common. This is because if any area is seen that looks a bit different, there is no previous mammo to compare it with. This happened to me and it was just an area of particularly dense breast tissue. Hope all goes well for your Mum.
